“Incredible location on the edge of the national park”

Starting with the best bit - this hotel/resort has some of the best views you will find anywhere on the planet, simply incredible and perhaps even worth a stay in its own right. Pousadela Village is a small collection of chalets linked by a shared restaurant, bar and leisure building. There are perhaps 20 or so guests spread across the spacious site - it never feels busy. Our chalet was one of the pairs which adjoin (small tip - the walls are thin in the living areas so if you can book an individual chalet then that will help). The accomodation was comfortable and had a kitchen capable of self-catering if you wanted. The site is on a steep hill, so is not suitable for those with mobility issues, but otherwise getting around is very straightforward. You can park your car next to your chalet so getting luggage in and out is no effort at all. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast (great), lunch (didn't try it) and dinner (superb!). Prices are reasonable, given you are in the middle of nowhere and the staff are all fantastic. A final note - the new outdoor infinity pool with views over the valley is one of the best places I have ever spent time. Quiet, huge pool with far reaching views and amazing subsets.

The houses had all the amenities including a fully equipped kitchen. The restaurant served a delicious breakfast with local specialty pastries. The chef prepared fantastic dinners. Highly recommend.

This unique resort property somehow managed to be friendly and comfortable and fun despite the modern corporate vibe that we would usually avoid. (If you're looking for a taste of historic/small town Portugal, this is not it.) There is a main building with bar and restaurant and office, and then a steep climb up to our duplex cottage (Oteiro), The cottage was spacious and comfortable and clean and the bed was great although the decor was a weird corporate glitz and some of the furnishings were low quality (the refrigerator cabinet was coming apart, and we had to call for repairs to the door lock, for which we got a fast and cordial response.) Nearby is the spa building with a beautiful indoor pool, sauna and steam bath, and a so-so hot tub surrounded by fake rocks. There's a lovely bar and sitting room upstairs but when we were there it wasn't staffed and you had to order by picking up a telephone and waiting for someone to show up. We were there in the low season and it wasn't crowded but I wonder how the small (but clean) shower room and the small hot tub would accommodate crowds. The pool is great for families and has waterfall cascade showers you can activate. The breakfasts were sumptuous with an amazing array of fruits, pastries, sausages and cheeses. The food at dinner was excellent. Our waiter Danilo was delightful-- professional, skilled, gave great wine and food recommendations, and was generally just a genuinely nice person. The service throughout our stay was fantastic. (The high point: my husband ordered a scotch to take back to our room. The staff didn't want him carrying a glass up the stone walkways and said they'd bring it to us. Two minutes after we got back to our room there was a knock at the door and a waiter in a suit was standing there with a tray, a bowl of ice, a nice glass, and a bottle of Johnny Walker from which he proceeded to pour a generous shot with one hand while holding the tray aloft in the other.) Anyway, this place has no historic or local charm but was nonetheless a fun and comfortable stay.
