We had a lovely 3 night stay in July and felt we made the right decision in our hotel choice. I can't comment on breakfast as we didn't opt for this and didn't use the coffee shop or restaurant but they looked very nice. Our room on the first floor overlooked the front canopy. We found the room comfortable, lovely large bathroom and it was very clean. Air con was so quiet and we had a huge bed with excellent pillows. The room had a fridge and safe. The communal areas of the hotel were clean and well looked after. It felt a nice place to return to. Nice smelling hotel with a different scent on every floor. External noise might sometimes be an issue as we heard some football noise outside after a match but it was over by midnight so not an issue. We didn't have cause to interact much with the staff but when we did they were polite. Only small gripe, but hardly any coffee/creamer/t-bags etc in the room so had to ask reception twice and after searching around the front desk they found a couple of sachets. They said they would ask Housekeeping to leave more but they didn't. We would stay again as we liked the hotel and the central location. Porto is lovely and we could easily have stayed an extra couple of nights. It is quite hilly but we enjoyed all the cobbled little streets and cafe culture and so lovely at the waterfront especially at night. We returned to the airport in a Bolt from the hotel which was only twice the cost of the metro system we caught from the airport to get to the hotel and then we had to walk. In retrospect would have got a Bolt/Uber there too.

We stayed at Pestana Porto – A Brasileira from 28 July to 2 August 2026. I chose this hotel to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday, which happened to be on the day we checked in. Before arriving in Porto, we had stayed at Portugal Boutique Hotel in Lisbon, where the staff surprised my mother with a cake and champagne the night before we checked out — without us asking and without any charge. My mother was so happy and touched by their kindness. At Pestana Porto – A Brasileira, I needed to request and pay for the birthday surprise (a cake and champagne). This was perfectly fine for me, as I simply wanted my mother to have a memorable holiday, but the contrast between the two hotels was noticeable. Although Pestana Porto – A Brasileira is rated as a 5‑star hotel, the overall feeling was closer to 4 stars. Compared to the warm, consistently friendly staff at Portugal Boutique Hotel, this hotel didn’t quite meet the same level of hospitality. There was no one at the door to greet us, which is something I would normally expect from a 5‑star property. Some receptionists were lovely and welcoming, but others didn’t greet us at all when we returned to the hotel. It wasn’t a major issue, but after such an exceptional experience in Lisbon, my expectations for a 5‑star hotel were naturally higher. The breakfast restaurant is beautiful, as it is set inside the original historic A Brasileira coffee house — full of character and charm. Breakfast itself was very good. The buffet selection was not huge, but they also offered a separate à‑la‑carte menu with freshly made dishes, which we enjoyed every morning. The quality of the food was excellent. The rooms were nice, but the sink drainage in the bathroom was very slow, which definitely needs some maintenance. The hand wash, shower gel, and shampoo felt very similar, almost as if they were the same product. There was no hair conditioner provided by default, which was a bit inconvenient for us as we all have long hair. I requested some from housekeeping, and they kindly brought it — but only one tiny bottle per person, and they didn’t replace them the next day until we asked again. It’s a small detail, but worth mentioning. If you have long hair, it’s best to bring your own. Overall, our stay was good, but not exceptional. The hotel itself is nice, the breakfast is lovely, and the location is convenient. However, the service and hospitality did not quite reach the level I would expect from a 5‑star hotel. For these reasons, I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

We’ve taken a very long time to decide on hotels in Porto and then compromised on the Pestana. We’ve taken a very long time to decide on hotels in Porto and then compromised on the Pestana. I wanted the river hotels ( good job we didn’t- because it’s madness down there) and the husband wanted hotels further out. I don’t think this hotel is 5* but a good 4* hotel. The room was comfortable but definitely not luxurious - I loved the bathtub in the bathroom. The breakfast room was small and it would have been nicer if they‘d opened it to the larger and much nicer cafeteria. There is no pool or rooftop bar and the courtyard is very confined ( a couple of sofas and an artificial plant wall), I would certainly not recommend the the indoor rooms and the outside rooms will have some traffic noise. Albeit the soundproofing between rooms was very good as we couldn’t hear any noise from other guests . The Airconditioning worked well too and it was not noticeably in terms of noise. in terms of location- it’s absolutely perfect. It’s a 5-15 min walk in all directions to various sights. Just a few minutes up the hill and across the square and you are at the top level of the bridge. Restaurants are on the doorstep . The service was good in the restaurant and cappuccinos and omelettes were available on request. Rooms were cleaned well and the bed was comfortable. Would we return? We could do but if we were to return to Porto we’d probably look for a hotel with a pool.
