We booked here for a week's break in this traditional spa town set in forested hills. The town of Baile Herculane has two parts, with Afrodita and several rather similar high-rise hotels are clusted in the southern resort portion - the sites and older town are further north. There are both positive and less good aspects to the hotel, and it probably merits a score somewhere between average and very good. The positives included some good expert staff in the spa for massages, sauna etc, a pleasant bar and terrace by the access road, and bedrooms with balconies which were quite small but well-appointed. Less attractive was the breakfast experience, with formulaic buffet food and too many people - though having chosen a spa hotel rather than a small pension, that "goes with the territory"! Staff were generally efficient and helpful. Resort hotels like this often have 'events' and we attended a wine-tasting which was distinctly underwhelming, with just three wines from the same producer on offer. However, given what we were seeking (a comfortable hotel with easy access to the historical sites and forest walks), Afrodita fitted the bill - it simply wasn't that special!

“Pool redeemed the hotel”

I was in room on the 7th Floor – a faded room which was well soundproofed. Not enough lifts to cover the number of guests so expect long waits but the hotel redeemed itself with an excellent pool which was open late - I didn’t have a view but slept well!

In June 2024 - yes I know I'm a bit behind and a bit late with the review process from this summer, now what can I say, it's been a dense year - we went for a few days to Baile Herculane and the hotel of choice was the Bacolux Afrodita Resort&Spa hotel. First things first - one of the points taken in consideration when booking was the availability of parking on the premises - well they've got parking lot for like 50 cars - however the hotel has a few hundred rooms and the parking lot is not enough , so we parked the car on the street near the hotel and did walk a few hundred meters to the hotel. Checking in - a bit chaotic, and the front desk staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the 6-7 people checking in at the same time... Room - well it was not what we've expected, dated, furniture showing evident marks of wear and tear, small in size (good thing that we did not intend to sped much time in the room), and the AC had some minor flaw so it had an "intermittent" functioning cycle. The balcony offered a great view - that was a really nice thing, although you had to be careful when getting out since we were sharing the balcony with a "family" of swallows that were nesting just above the balcony door so you had to be careful in order to avoid stepping into bird droppings. We've checked out the outside pool, kind of small and ... kind of "we will pass" , did not use it, also when getting down to the spa level, when we've opened the door a very humid atmosphere was greeting us, with a fairly strong chlorine smell with a musty odor - so strike 2 , no pool no spa for us ... Dinning - this was decent - with some highlights , the package we've booked was a half-board type of deal, so we've got breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was pretty decent although a bit boring since every morning was almost identical, for a few days its ok , you still pick. The dinner , a mixture of Romanian and international dishes, in the general pretty average food, but one evening they've got muscles, now those were really nicely done - but a single highlight. Otherwise the food was plenty, although not really spectacular. Prices - now that was not aligned with the offering, I would say very much overpriced ... and I mean by far. Personally, now , knowing what to expect for my money I would definitely choose another place to stay. Overall we had a decent stay, nonetheless this hotel is hugely overpriced at least from my perspective , not rising to the level of 4 stars that is advertised to be - I've seen hotels on 5 continents, this hotel is a fair 3 star based on what you get for your money , at a max! Personally I will not pick it again for another stay. Also in terms of rating I was oscillating between 2 - poor - and 3 average that I've scored eventually , well I would incline to a 2,5 average scoring ... that's in my book marked beside this hotels name.
