This is one of quite a few sizeable hotels built specially for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. At that time this district of the city was very new and scarcely populated, and the metro station Yugo-Zapadnaya was the last one on the red metro line. Even my block of flats did not exit yet! Now it does, and this is why I took a short stroll across Prospect Vernadskogo – in coronavirus time it’s good to exersise one’s feet. Like other 1980 steel-and-glass- skyscrapers, Salut doesn’t look anything chic, but a very good value for your money. They seem to have plenty of rooms anytime, except special events like the famous football championship 2018, of course, when everything was booked and overbooked. Living in Moscow, I obviously do not need a hotel, but what I can definitely recommend is this academic neighbourhod. The Moscow university is just two metro stops away, and three other schools of higher education are within five minutes’ walk. This means that the place is safe, one the one hand, and culturally diverse on the other. I’ve heard that tourists may feel uneasy when there is no one of their type around; here if you go to a local supermarket you can meet Chinese students from the Chemical school, Malaysian students from the School of Pedagogics, African students from Patrice Lumumba University, in fact, it’s easier to say whom whom you cannot meet around here. Another positive side is logistics; just 20 minutes by metro, and you can see the Red Square, the Kremlin, the Bolshoi theatre, and the beautiful Novodevichy convent is even closer. The metro fare is currently about half a euro. By the way, do you know that in older times, in the 16th - 17th these lands belonged to the Novodevichy? They had rich gardens and orchids, you can still see some of the apple trees in Troparevo Park. Archangel Michael's church right across Prospect Vernadskogo is worth mentioning, too, an absolutely lovely piece of the 17th century Naryshkin baroque.

“Decent Hotel in SW Moscow”

We stayed here for two nights in July 2019. The lobby is appealing and well appointed. The people behind the desk ignore you at first and pretend to be busy so you have to get their attention. They are friendly and speak English as well as Russian. Our suites were spacious and very clean. They had three rooms; the main room, the bedroom and the bath room. The main room has ample seating with a desk and closets for luggage and coats. Also provided is a pot with tea and coffee choices and a desk for working. The bedroom has the air conditioner, a TV and a queen bed with a somewhat stiff mattress. The bathroom had a nice tub/shower with plenty of space to clean up. We ate at the bar/restaurant on the main floor and enjoyed their food and desert. We also went to Salut restaurant for the breakfast. It was a decent offering of hot and cold foods. We found it very busy at 8:00 and the wait/bus staff barely kept up with the crowd. They didn't wipe off the tables or placemats rather just removed the previous people's stuff; it was not as clean as one would prefer. There are other restaurants in the "dungeon" for adventurous types seeking Uzbek or Asian cuisine. We dropped in to look at the menu and decided to eat upstairs. The hotel seems to be marginally supplied with elevators. Our visit saw the hotel rather full and during peak activity periods the elevators were overwhelmed. Some cultures accept pushing and overloading as normal behavior, but I found it to be rude. Pverall, the hotel was a decent choice and we would recommend it to travelers who need accommodations in that area of Moscow.

Stayed while IT conference. Maybe just few tips. As this hotel is quite popular and there are a lot of people just take the stairs and dont waste your time to wait for an elevator during peak hours. If you take subway then go out on Yugo-Zapadnaya, walk would be safer and easier. Also as this is … more

If you take subway then go out on Yugo-Zapadnaya, walk would be safer and easier. Also as this is an old building you should expect noise coming in your room.

The beds are very comfortable to sleep on. The rooms are well insulated, there are no noises. The beds are very comfortable to sleep on. The rooms are well insulated, there are no noises. Its very good place for sleaping. - The carpets are extremely dirty, though the maids manage to clean everything else as well. - The hotel charges for luggage if it is longer than 3 hours. I kept my luggage at the hotel for 3 and a half hours and they charged me the full price. This is unacceptable for normal hotels, especially since I stayed 7 nights there. - The restaurant where breakfast is served is overcrowded by people. Several times I stood for a while with a plate in my hand to find a table where I would have breakfast. The restaurant hall is much smaller than the capacity of the hotel. Food quality is not bad, however, the same food is served every day for the breakfast.
