Our tenth safari tour was at the wonderful at Xanatseni Private Camp in Klaserie PNR, South Africa. The lodge is situated in mopani woodland, very different from the thorn-scrub just a few kilometres south. It is an intimate lodge, peaceful and tranquil. The gardens are large and beautifully kept with huge fever-trees a stand-out feature. They are inhabited by squirrels, dwarf mongoose and a multitude of birds. There is a raised viewing platform overlooking a little waterhole, visted daily by elephants, antelope and birds. The buildings, with their shaggy thatched roofs, blend well into the background bush and are my idea of what an African lodge should be. The main lodge is spacious and offers every luxury .. lots of very comfortable lounges, tea and coffee and a well-equipped bar. The artwork decorating the walls adds to the wonderful atmosphere. Our lodge - Rhino Lodge - was exceptional. From the big four-poster bed complete with mosquito netting to the spacious well-appointed bathroom it just cried luxury. Morning and afternoon game drives are in well maintained long-wheel base Toyota Land-cruisers, with tiered seating for nine guests. Blankets, polar-fleece ponchos and hot-water bottles make the early drives warm and comfortable. We had guide, Ricardo and tracker, Sydney for our 6 night stay. Both were extremely knowledgable, accommodating and funny. By co-ordinating with other vehicles traversing the same area they were able to offer us some amazing sightings. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were treated as special guests. Front of house, Teneil, made sure that our every need was catered. This was to be our last trip to Africa, but after a stay at Xanatseni, I don't think it will be.

Had an amazing stay at Xanatseni in early May 2026. Danni and Prince were our driver and tracker for our games drives and were fantastic. Had an amazing stay at Xanatseni in early May 2026. Danni and Prince were our driver and tracker for our games drives and were fantastic. We saw four out of the big five as well as many other species. We were welcomed back to the lodge with drinks and then ate fantastic food for breakfast/dinner. Lunch was also great each day. The rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean and had turn down service each night. Teniel on front of house was great and was available whenever needed. I highly recommend and hopefully will be back soon.

“Amazing first safari”

We had a wonderful experience at Xanatzeni. Tineil and all the staff were so welcoming. The accommodation is superb as is the food. Highlight was the game drives with Ricardo and Sidney. We saw all we wanted to (the big 5 ) and more!! It was our first safari and such a memorable experience!

Because of some personal issues, it’s taken a bit to get around to, but I wanted to recap our stay at the Xanatseni Private Lodge in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve at the end of November. The trip was nothing short of extraordinary — a life-changing experience made unforgettable by the people who run it. From the moment we arrived we were enveloped in a warm, family-like atmosphere. Having been on safaris across Kruger and other countries, this place, while absolutely first class in every way, felt by far the most at home and comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and immediately made to feel like part of the Xanatseni family. The pristine environment and breathtaking game drives were complemented our Guide and Tracker, Ricardo and Sydney, who’s incredible knowledge and enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation made the visual experience so impactful in way that is difficult to properly put into words (“difficult to put into words” is a recurring theme when describing this place and the people). Each game drive was an exciting adventure, made even more remarkable by our guides’ expert storytelling, humor, the insights into the ecosystem, and the friends we made along the way (David, if you see this, you are an absolute gem). The scenery and the wildlife is truly breathtaking. It sounds cliche, but to be able to be a guest in the natural habitat of these incredible animals was humbling and, frankly, life changing. To immerse yourself in something that leaves you simultaneously with a sense of absolute peacefulness and pure exhilaration is impossible to accurately describe but is it truly extraordinary. From the beginning of the drive till the end, the goosebumps never faded. The Accommodations blended elegant comfort with authentic closeness to nature, allowing us to disconnect from everyday life, reconnect with ourselves and, most importantly, connect with the bush. Whether watching the sunrise over the African landscape, savoring exquisite meals prepared with care (and an incredible graciousness to accommodate even the smallest request), or sharing quiet moments (or laughter filled ones getting a semi-sober lesson in rugby) under the stars, each experience felt crafted with care. While the game drives were incredible, The staff at Xanatseni truly became the heart and soul of our stay — not just attentive professionals but warm, kind, gracious people who truly took the time to get to know you. From the guides who made sure each sighting made us pause in wonder and tailored every game drive to bring those moments to life, to the house team who quietly anticipated our needs with little surprises — such as an off menu unexpected steak on our last night — every interaction felt personal. They remembered our preferences and likes, took the time to genuinely get to know us, and added thoughtful, personal touches throughout our stay. They asked about our lives, laughed with us, shared stories, and created moments that felt like coming home. Their kindness turned extraordinary comforts into meaningful memories and left an imprint on us: we didn’t just enjoy a luxury stay, we left with new friends who are now special people in our lives forever. Speaking of which, we’d like to extend a special thanks to two absolutely incredible people: Teneil and Dani — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your thoughtfulness turned a wonderful stay into something unforgettable. Your kindness made Xanatseni truly feel like family and created a memory we will treasure forever. A memory that truly exceeds words. We’re deeply grateful for everything you did for us and can’t wait to return and see you both again. Hopefully this time with another to add to the Xanatseni Family… Again, This visit was truly transformative. We left with hearts full of gratitude and the certainty that Xanatseni and its staff will remain part of our lives. We certainly will be back and cannot wait to see them again. Months later and nothing has changed. We miss this place immensely and cannot wait to go back.
