I hosted some Chinese business visitors for a night at Gwahumbe, and we stayed in Eagles nest which is a house below the office and dining room complex. The house is beautifully built with 4 ensuite bedrooms, a well appointed kitchen and lovely patio and braai area. We did a game drive with a guide who knew the answers to our many questions and was very friendly and hospitable. Ali and her staff run a fine establishment, and i have no hesitation in recommending Gwahumbe to anyone looking for a weekend get away.

We recently celebrated our anniversary with a 4 night stay at Hippo Campsite No 1 at Gwahumbe Resort and Spa our second stay at this resort campsite and once again we were blessed with good weather and many animal and bird sightings. Setting & Atmosphere The campsites are situated in a valley alongside a river and does require a 4x4 or high ground clearance with diff lock to be reached with one river crossing included. There are trees offering shade throughout the day. We were in site number 1, which was spacious enough to accommodate a Bushlapa, towing vehicle and tents comfortably. The camp site had a lush green lawn and plenty of trees, providing a good mix of shade and sunshine throughout the day. It is also incredibly quiet, stillness broken only by the sound of water flowing over rapids, the local bird life and the snorts of inquisitive zebra and wildebeest that popped in on occasion to graze on the short grass. Facilities & Amenities * Ablutions: The 3 privates camp sites are large and flat and well planned to offer privacy. All 3 sites have private ablutions. The showers have large shutter windows and when opened offer a large private view of the river. They were rustic and spotlessly clean and offered hot water (gas-heated). * Amenities: Each campsite has a large fire pit/braai with ample workspace, sites 2 & 3 share a kitchen, site 1 has its own kitchen for washing up (with hot water), lighting is by solar power and batteries, no electricity as it’s off grid. * Accommodation& Game Drives: The resort does have luxury accommodation that does not require a 4x4. There are options for private and group game drives. * Bar/Restaurant: Restaurant with ample seating arrangements inside and out, a swimming pool with a view. On both occasions we ate at the restaurant the food was delicious. There is a kiddies play area nearby. * Spa: We had a relaxing couples spa treatment which I highly recommend. * Bonus Features: Lots of fire wood Activities * Relaxing: The area is safe and peaceful. There are walks on the property for those who want to be active however you are walking in an area with game so be cautious. * Picnic/Braai sites: There is a lovely picnic site below the waterfall with braai, toilets and running water where we spent several days birding, the two resident rhino did pop in for a visit. The game rangers use this a stopping point when taking other visitors on game drives and would walk over for a friendly chat offering advice on their game sightings, thanks Simon. There are other sites notably the cave that also offers picnic facilities and toilet, where we spent one morning for breakfast. * 4x4 Trails: Although most areas can be reached by high ground clearance vehicles there are specific trails that are 4x4 only. Management Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. They went out of their way to make our anniversary special. Tips for Future Campers * Water: There is running water on the campsite but you need to bring drinking water. * Supplies: The resort is quite far from the nearest major town but there is a small Savmor Spar near the resort. Verdict: If you want a private, clean, and beautiful rustic game reserve getaway, Gwahumbe Resort and Spa is highly recommended. Private Riverside Campsite

We stayed in Eagles Nest self catering. Had everything we needed and more. We loved that each room had its own bathroom. The Beds were perfect! We all slept in which is unheard of . Maxwell was an incredible Ranger on the game drive..Would of been nice to see.more animals... saying that the ones … more

We were disappointed to be told the steam room was out of order on arrival as we had booked the luxury treatment package. Sadly, the room with the outside bath as shown on the brochure was not the room we were allocated. The lights along the walkway path from our bedroom did not work, which made walking to dinner rather tricky. I did report it, but they remained broken. Our bathroom needed some maintenance as our toilet seat and basin taps were all loose. But generally all good otherwise. Our game ranger, Simon was great..
