Vrede Self-Catering really lives up to its name, providing peace to guests! As bird and wildlife lovers, this was a piece of paradise for us! When the guesthouse owner sent us a list of bird species spotted in this eco estate, prior to our departure from Hong Kong, I knew we're in for something special, but I did not expect to see free roaming mammals, like Bush Duikers and Steenbok! Despite our long flight, we immediately started to explore the estate with our cameras and were not disappointed. From beautiful Cape weavers to majestic Jackal buzzards, the secure complex in which Vrede Self-Catering is located, is any bird enthusiast's dream! We felt privileged to stay here for 5 nights, with the only regret being that we didn't book longer (although we'd make up for that on our next visit this year)! The beautiful dam inside the estate and about a 20 min leisurely walk from the guesthouse is a place I could sit for hours to take in the sounds of nature and record what our feathered friends are up to. There are also beautiful hiking routes, along which you'd meet friendly residents that are happy to share their knowledge of the estate's wildlife and local places of interest. The guesthouse itself offers splendid views of Somerset West, Strand and even Gordon's Bay, if you have a telephoto lens/binoculars. The spacious room we stayed in (King Studio) has a very comfortable king size bed, kitchen large enough to cook a variety of meals, a bathroom that you'd only see in 5 star hotels in Hong Kong, and a beautiful patio to enjoy meals/drinks in nature. We also appreciated the insect shield in front of the large sliding door, allowing guests to have fresh air enter the room, without insects coming in! For cleanliness and really everything else, we'd give Vrede Self-Catering 10/10. The towels are very big and extra soft, while the chairs offer extra comfort. There's also ample, secure parking space, washing lines to hang out clothing, after doing laundry in the kitchen's washing machine. Oh, and for those who don't like washing dishes, there's even a dishwashing machine! We can highly recommend this modern, peaceful guesthouse with very friendly and helpful management/owners. You'd be hard pressed to find anything better, even at twice the price! We can't wait for our next stay at Vrede Self-Catering!

We stayed here for almost three weeks as part of an extended tour in South Africa, escaping the English winter. What a beautiful apartment. So well furnished, spacious and tastefully appointed throughout. Daily cleaning service was discrete and much appreciated. All consumables replaced or topped up. We were in the larger one of the apartments and the secluded, private outdoor area allowed many a BBQ with a glass of red watching the gorgeous sunsets across to the coast. Super safe area with guarded entry and exit to the estate and parking right in front of the apartment. Lovely trails behind the property to walk and take in the views. Easy to get Uber from the property too if you don’t want to drive to restaurants or vineyards. Thank you Maggie for your excellent hospitality. Highly recommend.

A modern upmarket home that offers multiple self catering units, located at an elevation high above the city. Situated in a large secure Eco estate with hiking trails and epic sunset views (and has their own reservoir/water supply, very cool). Superbly clean, comfortable beds, a place where you feel at peace with nature. A quick 30 minute drive to Stellenbosch and only minutes from 2 historical wine farms (Vergelegen and Lourensford). Great communication from the owner and wonderful staff. A stay worth repeating.

Everything we hoped for, we received - from the warm hospitality to the comfort and coziness of the place. I rate this place 100% and would highly recommend anyone to take a shot-left and experience the amazing feeling of being there.
