I just love this hostel: the staff and my room, although it took me some time to find it when I first arrived at Jongno 5 ga. For travelers: when you arrive at Jongno 5 ga subway stn, exit #3 and you see Emma Bakery, there is an ally behind Emma Bakery, just enter the ally and within 2 mins you will see Star Hostel Dongdaemun Suite. I would definitely stay again at Star Hostel because the location is very good, the staff are very nice and helpful and I had a comfortable stay.

“Good for one night but very expensive for what you get”

The hostel is in a comfortable location near the subway (directions are sent by mail before you arrive) and close to market and restaurants. The lane is kind of shabby and dirty, not very appealing. The room was very small but good enough for one night, the bathroom small and uncomfortable with the shower connected to the tap of the wash basin and flooding the floor. There is a basic breakfast (and you have to wash your dishes). The staff is kind, wifi good. I found the price very high (144€ for one night) for what you get.

“Great stay in Seoul”

I booked a 1 bedroom with private shower. It had 1 person bed (70x200) with HD-tv and small bathroom. I booked a 1 bedroom with private shower. It had 1 person bed (70x200) with HD-tv and small bathroom. The bed was ok, not too comfortable because you could feel the metal springs and it was a bit hard, but ok enough to sleep on for a couple of nights. the bathroom was clean and new with nice sink. There was shampoo and shower gel available for own use and a blow dryer plus free towels. The best was that you get your own key for the front door so you can leave and return to the hotel whenever time you wish. I did not try the free breakfast as I decided to sleep in most days. The last 2 nights there was some construction going on outside making it hard not to wake up early in the morning at 6!! To find the hotel in the beginning is a bit tricky when you exit 3 at the Jongno-gu 5 station. You have to take the very first street on the right, and it's a very narrow street, so you may miss it the first time. But once you find it it's so easy, within 1 minute from the exit 3. You can easily walk to Dongdaemun busy shopping area and DPD plaza. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this stay if you need something in that area.

Since the rating for this hostel is high, so I booked 3 nights from 17-20 Mar 2016 for 2 twin rooms + 1 double room. Ms. Rilly You (hostel manager) is a nice, charming and helpful lady. After my booking, she sent me email for confirmation and gave me some basic transportation information. We took airport bus no. 6002 to “Jongno 6 ga” and suppose within 10 mins walk from bus stop to the hostel. Unfortunately, the bus driver skipped the bus stop and we needed to get off 1 bus stop later - Dongdaemun / Heunginjimun. Then, we walked around 30 mins back to the hostel. We saw metro station – Jongno 5 ga exit 3 and a bakery named “Emma” beside it. There was an alley behind “Emma” bakery, got inside and walked 100 m, the hostel was located at the left hand side. It is easy to locate it. I would like to say that some sex karaokes in the alley, anyway, it is safe except a man was dead drunk and shouted at 3-4 am in one night……haahaaa……… Besides, the hostel is nearby Gwang Jang Market. Go back to “Jongno 5 ga” exit 3 and around 10 mins walking distance to the Market. If go to Dongdaemun shopping mall, only 15-20 mins walking distance from hostel. So, I had arranged a night visit to there on Friday midnight. The direction is going back to “Emma” bakery -> turn left (the opposite direction of Gwang Jang Market) & walk to Dongdaemun / Heunginjimun -> cross the road to JW Marriot Hotel -> walk along the hotel -> pass Cheong Gye Stream -> shopping malls 100 m ahead. For the interior of hostel, it is new and clean. It has 3 floors but no lift. I lived in 2nd floor and it is ok to move my luggage in the beginning but a bit harsh when I put it down to the reception at the end of my journey. Wifi in rooms is good and strong. Room is small but it is expected when I spent HK$500 / night / twin room. I only concern if room is clean or not. Lucky that the room is bright & clean. Water pressure for shower is strong. It is not allowed to eat in the room. All food should be eaten in the pantry which located at the basement in the hostel. Hostel provides basic & simple breakfast from 8-10 am. Staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. Furthermore, the hostel provided free rental for wifi egg. We sent email to the hostel for “egg” reservation. When we check-in, gave KRW50,000 for deposit and the deposit would give back to us when returning the wifi egg to hostel. The disadvantages are (1) no electric kettle in room and we needed to refill water in pantry, (2) room cleaning service is provided every 3 nights but I could ask for new plastic bags to replace the rubbish bags in the room, (3) my room is hot even I wear short sleeves shirt, open window and move the curtain aside to let wind in. Frankly, the disadvantages are minor and the price is attractive for us to have good stay at there.
