This was a very clean and nice hotel. The breakfast was amazing including the ice cream buffet. The beach is quite peaceful, but note that it is not a sand beach. The hotel is located at a peaceful suburb by the sea and it is a 10-15 minutes drive from the downtown. Note that the suburb doesn't have a lot of services. Try to get a room with a direct seaview. It's worth it as the views are amazing!

“Modern beachside hotel with a good length bed”

We stayed for 5 weekdays, avoiding the weekend. It was a quiet stay all but one night. We stayed for 5 weekdays, avoiding the weekend. It was a quiet stay all but one night. Staff were quick to respond to our complaint about 3 men yelling in the hallway shortly after 11.p.m. I asked them to be quiet, but they ignored me and stood outside their room and the noise continued. We suggest signs be placed in the hallways reminding people to keep the noise to a minimum. We were upgraded to a privilege room with a full ocean view due to our platinum status. The view was fabulous. The hotel has a tent on the beach with 8 very comfortable bean bag chairs. You must reserve them in 2-hour blocks. We were not told about this facility upon check and only stumbled across an electronic screen in the shopping arcade that showed the tents with the Mercure banner. We enjoyed our time in the tent and ocean even though it was relatively cold. Unfortunately, the hotel only offers buffet for dinner and there are few western style restaurants near the hotel. We ended up eating at Og Burger and Lotteria out of desperation.

“Nice new hotel”

Nice new hotel on a black sand beach. Rooms are nice but small. Beds are comfortable. Partial ocean view was nice. Nice new hotel on a black sand beach. Rooms are nice but small. Beds are comfortable. Partial ocean view was nice. Breakfast is 28,000 but there is Starbucks a block away and several restaurant options within walking distance. Hotel is 30 min north of Ulsan city. Not much for tourist activities other than the beach. But a nice stop between other destinations. Would stay here again.

“Fantastic View But Not A Four Star Hotel”

My wife and I stayed at the Mercure Ambassador Ulsan for a week in October 2024. The positives first: the view over the sea of Japan is fantastic. We had an end room (911) which actually had two windows both of which gave sea views. The room itself is fine and of a good size, the bed comfortable and the bathroom small but functional. The shower is excellent. We could argue about the merits of a fitted carpet but there we are. Underground parking is available for free. However, this is not a four star hotel. The staff look miserable and most of them are not prepared for foreign visitors, which is surprising given the many business people who must come to Ulsan. The standard of English is poor in general and there seems no desire to accede to client wishes. It was fortunate that I speak some Korean. Some examples: the same single 2 min. 20 sec. track of manic big band music played in a loop over and over again during the seven breakfasts we experienced. I asked twice for this to be changed and I spoke in Korean to avoid any confusion. The man in the suit laughed and the girl in the breakfast room just said "Noooooo." As a musician whose music was listened to in 49 countries last week, this jarred on my nerves. Silence would have been preferable. The first couple of mornings we had breakfast on the terrace. Then the weather got really bad and the terrace was understandably closed. However, when the weather improved and we wanted to go outside, the girl made a half-hearted gesture to open the door as if opening the lock was an impossible conundrum and the suit I asked afterwards cited bad weather as the reason for not opening the door. After breakfast we went up a floor and sat outside in the "Healing Garden." No wind outside and very pleasant to sit out even if the sky was gray. You have to drink the fruit juice in paper cups (fours star hotel?) There are glasses but they are deliberately hidden beneath the counter under dishcloths. One morning I went back to get a second coffee shortly before 9:30. The girl thrust a paper cup into my hand and said "Closed." It was like being attacked by a kitten. She got really angry. I finally poured my coffee from the china cup to the paper cup and took it to go as she wished. It was 9:30 (closing time for breakfast) on my watch as we walked out. We left some laundry to be done at the desk. 24 items. 21 came back. I went and explained in Korean the items that were missing and they came back the next day. No apology and the girl at reception tried to tell us that there was an extra pair of socks in the order that we should have paid for. When I asked her if she wanted more money, she let it go, but this was downright bad faith as we had counted the items three times before handing them in to make sure of the numbers. And so on and so on. You should be aware that there is no restaurant dining in the evening. There is a limited buffet of a few plates at the bar under heat lamps but one would expect more than this in a serious hotel. There is a convenience store open late on the corner outside the main entrance which is useful and the welcome is better than at the hotel.
