Great hotel, great location with fantastic transport links. Lovely rooftop bar and pool with friendly staff. We had an excellent stay and we would definitely stay here again

This was my third time staying at Barcelo Malaga. The staff were warm and friendly.The room was spotlessly clean.The breakfast had a wide selection to choose from.I will definately be back. Location although not in centre of Malaga there was easy access to cheap taxi into Muello uno or Calle Larios.

“2 night stay at Barcelo Malaga was excellent”

Barcelo was a great hotel for business trip. The staff are very friendly and the food was excellent. It was also very clean hotel. It has a small pool, which too was very clean. I would recommend to also add some umbrellas as the sun was super hot with 38-40 degrees Celcius. Overall a great stay :)

The hotel is in a fantastic position with direct access to the train station and shopping centre through the back revolving door. The hotel is in a fantastic position with direct access to the train station and shopping centre through the back revolving door. The bus station is also just around the corner making travelling around the Costa Del Sol incredibly easy. It takes about twenty minutes to walk to the historical centre. The hotel is easy on the eye with a modern and spotlessly clean reception and bar area plus, of course, the magical slide! Never stayed anywhere that has an indoor one before! There is cold, drinking water supplied in the entrance which is a really nice touch when you return from your adventures. There are also lovely seating areas outdoors to relax on. We were checked in by a friendly, welcoming and professional man at reception. We haven't had breakfast so cannot comment on that. Now for why we've scored it only 3 stars. The air conditioning! We played around with it during our first two nights in an attempt to cool the room but to no avail. On our third night we went to reception and expressed our concerns. A lady from maintenance eventually arrived to investigate the problem. She assured us it was fixed but we suffered another sleep deprived night. Tonight is our fourth of a five night stay and I am laid writing this review as it is now well after midnight and, once again, too hot to sleep. We visited reception earlier yesterday evening. We explained the previous days events and asked for a fan only to be told there were none. The receptionist said he would send somebody to try again but by 9pm nobody had attended so we gave it up as a bad job and settled down to rest. Our room faces the busy road so sleeping with the windows open is not an option. This really has marred our stay due to lack of sleep. We were also disappointed to discover that the TV had only a couple of English speaking news channels and the Netflix button didn't work. Whilst we don't come on holiday to watch television we do enjoy watching a little during our downtime after busy days and evenings spent outside the hotel. I chose the deluxe room for it's whirlpool bath. A notice on the sink informs customers the plugs have been removed to conserve water. Our plug is in place but doesn't screw down to hold water. The pool is situated on the roof. Whilst it looks smaller than the photos suggest and the water is quite cold it still looks very beautiful. We arrived on Sunday and took the elevator to level 8 to relax there for a little while. The area was packed and there was no space for us to sit so we returned to our room. After reading through the app, it came as a surprise to discover that non hotel guests can pay a small fee to chill up there. Unfortunately on this day it appeared to be at the expense of, us, the hotel guests. There is also a lovely little bar serving drinks and snacks. I celebrated my birthday whilst here so we spent some time chilling and ordered drinks and a snack each. Almost 40 minutes later our food hadn't arrived so I returned to the bar with my receipt. There was a lot of talking in Spanish between the three bar staff followed by an apology and a prompt visit to the kitchen where our food was prepared and brought to us within ten minutes. It felt like another negative to our stay though I'm aware nothing's perfect and the issue was dealt with promptly and professionally. My final concern is the security within the Barcelo Malaga. People are able to access it directly from the front or from the train station and shopping centre at the back. There is no requirement to use your room key to use the lift, therefore, I wonder how many non hotel guests gain access to restricted areas. I've tried to write a balanced and honest review, however, I believe the air con issue requires immediate attention and resolution for the benefit of all future guests.
