“Lovely peaceful rural guesthouse style hotel”

Lovely little rural hotel- very peaceful and friendly with decent breakfast and dinner on offer. It’s about 10 mins drive to Ronda. The hotel is really sweet - loving staff and a rustic feel. I would like to go back in the summer and enjoy their outdoor space.

Really large comfortable bed with comfy pillows. Large shower enclosure really spacious. Lovely bar area and separate room to enjoy a relaxing drink. Really large comfortable bed with comfy pillows. Large shower enclosure really spacious. Lovely bar area and separate room to enjoy a relaxing drink. Ideal for car holiday. 2 kms outside of Ronda with parking in secure area attached to hotel. Wonderful staff, really helpful with the problem we had. Would definitely make a return visit in Summer period to sample the lovely pool area and the Restaurant.

I selected the hotel on the strength of its competitive pricing, complimentary parking, and respectable online rating. On paper, a sensible choice. In practice, an example in how surface appeal can obscure structural deficiency. What follows is not a catalogue of petty grievances, but a structured account of genuine shortcomings intended to be of equal use to future guests considering a booking and to ownership considering an upgrade. With investment in security protocols, guest communication, more attention to detail this property, which is attractive, has good facilities and sits in the middle of a beautiful countryside, has the ingredients to be genuinely recommendable. 1. The WhatsApp security breach Approximately five weeks before arrival, a WhatsApp message arrived demanding a 'mandatory refundable deposit' amounting to one and a half times the cost of the room itself — to 'secure' a booking that I had already paid for. The message was fraudulent. The hotel confirmed as much. What the hotel did not explain nor appear inclined to investigate was how the scammers came to possess my name, booking reference, travel dates, and personal telephone number. No apology was offered. No explanation was forthcoming. No remedial action was communicated. Whether the property suffered a data breach or operates with insufficient data hygiene, the effect on the guest is identical: a serious security incident treated as a minor inconvenience. 2. The Road to anxiety The property's distance from town — approximately fifteen minutes — is an acceptable trade-off for the price. The access road, however, is a different negotiation entirely. The final lane is, at points, only wide enough to accommodate one vehicle. When encountering oncoming traffic — which occurred three times over two days — drivers must reverse to the nearest passing point. For confident reversers, this is merely inconvenient. For the rest of us it is a recipe for anxiety. 3. The Ghost of Hospitality Past Check-in is entirely digital. We were given codes to the building and the room and essentially left to our own devices. We didn't see a single staff member until we proactively rang the reception bell on our way out just to confirm we existed. March may be a low season, but a hotel without personnel isn't just "efficient"; it’s soulless. 4. The Screaming Lock We were provided with codes but not instruction on how to use the electronic door locks. To make it work properly you first need to touch the electronic panel above the handle to switch it on, then you enter the code. The first and third times I used said mechanism, it worked fine. The second and fourth times it did not. When I touched the panel, it directly picked a digit, the wrong one, instead of pausing to allow me to pick the right one. The first time this happened my partner and I, taking turns, misfired six times - at which point the lock started (literally) screaming it little electronic head off, stating that it had locked itself down. We were not impressed. I was just trying to get back into the building to get a scarf because the evening had turned nippy. I gave up and just went to the restaurant instead. When I got back the lock at reset itself and I was able to get in. The second time this happened it happened three time before I realised that to activate the panel, I needed to not just touch it but specifically touch it right in the middle where the word ‘card’ appears. There is a phone number placed in front of the building to call in case of problem. But the last thing one wants to do when going to a hotel is battling with a lock then call for someone to come and open the door. 5. The "Upgrade" That Wasn't I paid a little extra for a balcony. What I received was a windowless attic room where the balcony door was the only source of light. Storage was virtually non-existent: a few hooks, a foldable luggage rack, and a small chest of drawers. That’s all. The bed was so low to the ground that even a standard airline carry-on couldn't fit underneath. There was not any desk or table either — just minimalist vibes. The view from the balcony was great though. 6. Safety and Minor Slights The interior door bolt was purely decorative, as the sliding bar and the hook were physically misaligned. As a result, it was not possible to close the door from the inside. While a kettle was provided, milk (even the powdered variety) was absent. A kettle without milk is a gesture rather than a service. The bed mattress was good, firm enough, for me, but the small pillows were quite uncomfortable.
