Hotel Indigo Barcelona A genuinely excellent stay, and the easiest five stars I’ve given on this trip. The room was spacious, well-appointed and thoughtfully designed — the kind of place that feels considered rather than just furnished. But what actually made the stay was the service. I arrived well before check-in, and the front desk — Rina and Lucas (apologies if I’ve got the second name slightly wrong) — turned what’s usually an awkward wait into the best possible introduction to the city. They taught me about the Catalan region, walked me through the hotel, and pointed me toward things to do and places worth visiting nearby. Then they checked me in quite early and upgraded the room once they understood how long difficult the trip was. That kind of intuitive, generous hospitality sets the tone for everything after. And the standard held. Housekeeping was efficient, and the service stayed consistent across every department we dealt with — no weak links, no drop-off. The one honest caveat is location. You’re a 25-minute-plus walk from a lot of the nicer restaurants and shops, so it’s not the most central base. There’s a grocery and a shopping centre about ten minutes away, but the retail there is limited. What it is close to is the OFFSónar and Sónar events — which is exactly why we chose it, and if you’re in town for those, the location flips from a drawback into a real advantage. Beyond that, I have nothing bad to say. If you’re staying in Barcelona — especially for Sónar — this is an easy recommendation.

We had a wonderful experience here. The hotel itself was clean, had all the amenities you could ask for, offered free luggage storage, was and even gave some sweet treats in the room. The rooms are incredibly spacious, but even more amazing is their customer service. The desk staff is top notch. They helped us get taxis, offered recommendations and always had a smile on their faces. We chatted with quite a few over the course of our stay, and each staff member was incredibly helpful and kind.

“Good simple hotel, no facilities except a gym”

Staff, service, room, cleanliness, location and breakfast was very good. Facilities are almost none. One gym in basement, closed early, so didn't really use. But we're in Spain so didn't need anything.

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the positive side, the hotel is reasonably well maintained, stylishly decorated and offered a quiet, comfortable and spacious room for our one-night post cruise stay. The breakfast was also decent, with a good selection of hot, cold and cooked to order items available. For me, what let this hotel down was a combination of its drab location and its poor attention to detail. In terms of the location, the Plaza Espana area is convenient enough for travel to the Fira, Parc Montjuic and out to the airport, and it enjoys good bus and metro services to connect with the wider city and the beach area. But it's not an attractive part of Barcelona at all. It has quite a 'down at heel' and slightly edgy feel to it, with lots of shutters over commercial buildings' windows and most of these heavily covered in graffiti. There was also a lot of litter visible around the hotel giving the neighbourhood a slightly unloved feeling. In terms of attention to detail, I found the room not to be as clean or well presented as I had expected of this brand, with a dirty minibar fridge and a questionable patch of sticky residue on the hard flooring. I was also disappointed to find that, although welcomed as a Diamond Elite member and offered the usual perks of a complimentary breakfast and a late checkout, my acceptance of these was not annotated on my reservation / account, meaning that I was rather impolitely told I had not paid for breakfast when I tried to avail of this and was initially refused entry to the restaurant. I also later found that the late checkout extension offered to me on arrival had not been actioned, meaning that my keycards needed to be reissued when I could no longer gain access to my room. Neither of these omissions / errors prompted any apology which, for me, spoke volumes. In terms of overall value, I didn't consider it to be bargain and, rightly or wrongly, I'd expected more for my money. There's another Hotel Indigo in Barcelona which enjoys a more central location and, next time, I'd probably give that one a try rather than considering this property again.
