I'm giving Pension Iturriza an excellent rating for two reasons: location and staff. Pension Iturriza is located in the heart of the old town of San Sebastian where just about everything that you need is. You really cannot beat this location. It is quiet where the pension is located, but it is a five minute walk from the main action. There are so many pintxos bars close by, and you will have no problems finding a spot to eat. And the price that I paid was extremely reasonable in a city that is quite expensive. I unfortunately did not get a chance to meet Ibon, but I met his wonderful wife Maite. I could have talked to her for hours. She helped me reschedule a restaurant reservation. She also called the train company for me as I was seeking information about a rerouting. She also gave me tips on what to order at the pintxos bars close by. I just loved talking with her, and I would return here just to chat with her and Ibon. This was the only time during my 2.5 week trip in Europe that I met hotel staff that took such a keen interest in helping me and making me feel at home. To keep expectations in check, these are not luxury facilities. But in a city like San Sebastian, this is wholly unnecessary. My room was very comfortable with a functional air conditioner (unlike my Bilbao location), a shower with strong water pressure, and blackout shades (unlike my Iceland location). It was very easy to walk here from the pintxos bars and take an afternoon nap before heading out for the evenings. Also, in the common area, there is a water dispenser, absolutely invaluable during the summer months. Finally, I would like to applaud Pension Iturriza for making my arrival so easy. The front desk is only staffed during certain hours, so when I arrived, I had very clear arrival instructions with my room card (and lock code) readily available. They really do their best to be available for your needs when they are not at the desk. I hope to come back soon!

“Great pension”

The location is fantastic! The rooms are spotless and roomy. Ibon is an absolute gem - super friendly and helpful. He gave us some excellent tips on what to do in San Sebastián and where to eat all across the city. We’re definitely coming back next time!

Ibon and his beautiful wife will happily lead you through a dream of places to eat if you desire... after 30 years in the restaurant business, it was a pleasure to yet again be lead on recommendations by someone who loves food and people!!! the beds are super comfortable, its beautifully clean and nothing was a problem when it came to advice on the area. i have travelled from Australia 4 times now to San Sebastian and my last two visits have been here and i doubt i would ever stay anywhere else again..... a truly memorable experience with the best hosts ever.... A fantastic Pension located a hop step and jump from the main pintxos bars in the Old Town of Donostia. An easy walk to La Concha and Gros. Ibon was an excellent host and keen to impart his knowledge of the area and teach us a few Basque words. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was a perfect size for the two of us with a balcony overlooking the street. The reception area had tea/coffee facilities and plenty of tourist information about the area. Eskerrik asko.
