We visited here after a hard days wandering and eating in toredo. Very welcoming and patient staff despite our shocking spanish. We stayed in a villa that was spatious, nearly new but with a very classic spanish style. Set in farmland next to vineyards its very quiet and serene. Our dog was also welcomed. A real bargain for the price.

“Great value, quiet base for sightseeing”

Having decided that I'd like to see the castles and windmills in Don Quijote's territory, I found this establishment perfectly positioned to do this. In one direction on the N420, the windmills at Mota del Cuervo are 15kms and the castle at Belmonte 30kms. In the other direction, Campo de Criptana's windmills are 17 kms, windmills at Alcazar de San Juan 25 kms and the castle and windmills at Consuegra a little bit further at 65 kms. The accommodation itself is about 1.5 kms from the town of Pedro Munoz along a quiet road that is lined by fields of grape vines. The accommodation I had, consisted of an entrance into the living room with aircon, TV and good wifi connection. From here there is a small kitchen with double hotplate and to either side a bathroom and double bedroom, (with it's own aircon). Above this is a second bedroom that opens up above the living room. This is accessed by a very steep set of narrow stairs, but as it was only myself, I had no need to use these. The furniture is old fashioned, I suppose you could call it rustic style, but it fitted it's purpose for the 2 nights I was there. I'm not sure whether it was just because I was visiting in early January with low occupancy and staff still on holiday, but the breakfast consisted of tostado with tomato or jam, fruit juice and coffee. Maybe there will be more on offer during a higher season. I had the menu del dia and the Encima special menu del dia and both were excellent, consisting of 3 courses with wine and coffee for €10 and €15 respectively. Although the staff that were working at this time didn't speak much English, my small amount of Spanish and sign language were enough to be understood by the pleasant and what appeared to be, happy staff. Taking it's location, facilities and extremely good prices for food and accommodation into account, I would recommend this to anyone that isn't looking for 4-5 star type of accommodation.

Great hotel with beautiful grounds. Room was more like a condo with small kitchenette with small refrigerator, microwave, and 2 burner stovetop. Great hotel with beautiful grounds. Room was more like a condo with small kitchenette with small refrigerator, microwave, and 2 burner stovetop. Hotel restaurant with great meals for lunch and dinner. Set menu very reasonably priced at 10 Euros. Breakfast A little meager with toast, butter, and jam. Only disadvantage was very few of the staff spoke any English but were very good and figuring out my bad Spanish.

We were looking for a decent place, not in a town or village, as a base to explore Don Quixote country. El Haldudo fitted the bill perfectly. Our luxury cottage had a small lounge, a large bath, separate toilet and a bedroom upstairs. It was spotlessly clean. The stairway to the bedroom is very steep and would not suite those with mobility problems (see photo). The à la carte dinner on Friday was not cheap but not expensive by international standards. The Saturday evening meal was a bargain: 2 copious entrées, a main course, dessert and a bottle of local wine came to about 18€ each; and it was good! Only the breakfast was a disappointment. A roll cut in half and toasted, with butter and jam. Second morning we asked for bread instead and got a few toasted slices, more in quantity at least than the previous day. Orange juice is concentrate: unacceptable in Spain for a finca of this supposed standing. Our cafés americanos were small. So one star removed because of breakfast. All the staff were charming and efficient. The finca is about a kilometer west of the town and about 500 meters south of the N420 main road. When wind is from the north you do hear road noise, though not inside the cottage nor inside the restaurant. The "road" that brings you out from the village continues west and is virtually traffic free, so it's a nice place for a stroll, pre-breakfast or pre-dinner. The finca is easy to find. If you arrive from the east, south or north take the main N420 towards Alcazar de San Juan (via Criptana). Just before leaving the town of Pedro Muñoz turn 90º left. Then take the first road leaving town to your right ( where, in fact, there is a sign saying "El Encinar de Haldudo"). If arriving from the west take the first turn to your right as soon as you are entering the village, then the next right. Bon voyage!
