Best location in Merida. Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Our stay was almost completely ruined by air fragrance dispensers. A cheap, heavy florid smell hit us when we entered the lobby. Irritated my throat and burned my eyes. When I inquired about the cause of the fragrance, the front desk man pointed to a large black box sitting on the floor against a wall in the lobby, plugged into the wall. He said he couldn’t do anything about it. The second morning, however, in the breakfast room, at my request, a young woman cheerfully disconnected the machine. Immediately my sinuses felt some relief. Also, I discovered a small wall fragrance dispenser plugged in next to the bathroom sink in our room and again I experienced an allergic and negative reaction to the air fragrance. I removed the offending fragrance device and gave it to the front desk with a request not to install any air fragrance dispensers in my room during our stay. We were in Room 219. Liked some things about our deluxe room like its spaciousness and location (corner room) but the tub/shower was dangerous. Very slippery when wet, and with no grab bars, my husband almost fell down. I will say the tub is great for soaking but again, nothing to hold onto when getting in or out. Since it was a deluxe room, it faced the public square and we had a nice view from a small window but be warned, as mentioned in other reviews, there is quite a bit of noise from the square until very late at night. Light sleepers should stick to a standard room which I understand from the front desk, are as spacious but don’t face the plaza. After 2 nights, with concerns about the shower/tub, and not getting any sleep due to the noisy crowds out front in the plaza, we moved to an available “accessible” room on the third floor. It had a huge bathroom and excellent shower set-up. Upon using the shower, however, we experienced constant water temperature fluctuations-for a minute the water would run tepid, then suddenly become scalding, then cold…and repeat…though there was no pattern. The water pressure itself was terrific-that never changed; just the crazy fluctuations in water temperature. Didn’t exactly make for a relaxing shower. It was extremely irritating. For the most part, though, Room 316 was charming. Queen size bed was fine for us because that’s what we sleep on at home (the other room on the 2nd floor had a king size bed). We enjoyed views of distant mountains and the ancient church next door. Three large, low to the floor windows with a center window that was actually a door that opened fully so that we could step outside onto a small private balcony. It was very pleasant to leave the glass door to the outside open for fresh air. It was much quieter on the third floor too, because we no longer faced the plaza. We could still hear sounds from the plaza but they were muffled and the dominant sounds were the cooing of mourning doves and a few birds in the distance. The front desk assured us that the church bells don’t ring all night long. The bells have a lovely sound and have rung just twice this evening. It’s just that we hope they don’t go on all night long. Breakfast was fine but the coffee was weak from what looked like a new machine. I think that unless you like large complicated breakfasts, you might do better elsewhere. We ate two excellent meals at “Sybarit” Restaurant around the corner, two blocks from the hotel. They were very busy each time and fully booked because of Easter Week but still managed to cheerfully squeeze us in. So all in all, an impressive hotel but they need to dump the gross fragrance dispensers and address water issues like we experienced in Room 316. And install grab bars in all bathrooms.

Love the hotel, the reception staff and the location. Beautiful bathroom and very comfortable bed. The hotel is right on the public square so it is noisy at night with the window open but that location also makes this hotel very walkable. We paid 25 euro for the valet parking. Love the hotel, the reception staff and the location. Beautiful bathroom and very comfortable bed. The hotel is right on the public square so it is noisy at night with the window open but that location also makes this hotel very walkable. We paid 25 euro for the valet parking. The hotel asked that we give 30 minutes notice to get the cat when needed. On morning of checkout it took 1 hour 10 minutes to get the car. This meant we got a late start to our travel day which put a damper on the whole stay
