Pena Pintada was a welcome break from the rush and heat of Madrid. Unfortunately we could only stay for one night but in that time the people and surroundings of the space stole our hearts. Don't worry about opening up Google maps or searching for the property when you arrive at Cercidilla station - the property is a stones throw away. A pleasure for weary legs. Despite the proximity, once you are in the property you can hear a pin drop. There is absolutely no noise pollution or disturbance from the town or the trains, bliss! The property itself is a haven with old school charm. The bedrooms are spacious and airy with a beautiful view of the valley from the comfiest chairs I've sat on in ages. Esther is an absolute delight and went above and beyond on so many occasions, truly making our trip memorable. She personally arranged for us to lunch at a local eatery where our poor Spanish skills really didnt get us very far - which obviously meant the food was very authentic and amazingly tasty. She also helped us book an unforgettable horse riding experience which we were originally told was not possible! If that wasn't enough - Esther insisted on dropping us to the ranch. Just amazing. After so much excitement we needed a good nights sleep at the wonderfully comfortable beds really delivered. In the morning we even had time for a quick stroll/trek with the park entry at the foot of the hotel. We really couldnt have asked for more from the hospitality, comfort or experience. If you are in Cercidilla please do give Pena Pintada a chance to sweep you off your feet.

“A perfect and cosy escape - great sleep and homemade breakfast”

I've stayed here a few times for some peace and rest, and for walks in the nearby sierra. The rooms are really cosy and make me feel like home. There's a simple kitchen for good meals and a drink, in summer a cute garden which is perfect for sitting out. Lovely homemade breakfast. Overall a great way to disconnect and feel looked after.

“Excellent hotel to relax and to explore the Guadarrama’s”

Peña Pintada is a very nice rural hotel where we stayed one night only. We would have loved to stay longer because of the nice and personal atmosphere but our hiking trip through Spain had to continue. The hotel is near the train station of Cercedilla so it’s an excellent location to explore the Sierra de Guadarrama: from here you can take the train up to Cotos or Navacerrada with your skis, bike or hiking boots. But you can also stay here to relax in the nice garden with views on the mountains and explore the town of Cercedilla. They also organize trekking walks and bike rides in the mountains if you’re a sporty type. The interior of the hotel and the rooms is very cozy and nicely decorated. There’s a bar where they sometimes organize cultural events and they serve food. The breakfast (which is included) with apfelstrudel is excellent! And most importantly the owners are very welcoming and they give you all the information you need. And for us as Dutch guests it was nice to find out that one of the owners (Esther) is half Dutch/half Spanish. Very interesting if you want to know more about the Spanish culture and/or if you don’t speak Spanish very well. All in all the hotel has great value for money and moreover we liked the relaxed atmosphere and personal attention.

Even though the Peña pintada is next to the train station, as soon as you walk through the gate into the pretty garden you feel as though you're in the heart of the countryside. The hotel is absolutely charming, and the hosts, Pedro and Esther, are incredibly kind and welcoming. Our room was cozy and beautifully decorated, and spotless. We had a delicious dinner by the log fire in the hotel. Our day started with a homemade apple strudel, made gluten free just for me! As a celiac, this was a rare treat and extremely special - and totally typical of our time at this lovely rural hotel. There were toys and books for our three year old who loved every minute of our stay. The location is ideal for walking in the surrounding woods or taking the train up to the nearby mountains.
