“Very safe hotel for solo travellers with a fantastic pool restaurant & bar. You won't need to eat or drink elsewhere!”

This was my first time in Suriname and traveling solo. Location (i.e. walkability to sights and eats) and safety were my top 2 priorities for booking a hotel. I chose Queens Hotel based on recent reviews here given their refurbishments. I stayed for 2 nights and loved the hospitality. There are… more

“A Wonderfully Pleasant Surprise”

I had never been to Suriname and had to come for a two-week business trip. I was alone in a foreign country (aside from Country business contacts) and didn't understand the Dutch language nor the currency so, at first, it felt like a rather daunting experience. However, in no time at all I began to… more

“Top level customer service for a studio stay”

As it was our 50th independence celebration as a nation and so many activities and celebrations were happening around town and also soccer games of Natio (Suriname national soccer team) for the World cup, I wanted to stay in city center close to all the actions and stayed at Queens apartment, part … more

“Nice and in the middle of town.”

This was the first time I stayed in the Queens Hotel in Paramaribo. When I told people I would stay in this hotel, people were asking why... The hotel has a not so good reputation, especially with local people. However, my stay was almost perfect. The room I had was spacious, clean and quiet. Even… more

“Very Comfortable and Excellent Location”

The hotel seems to be undergoing some renovation, so the lobby is not the most attractive area of the hotel, but the room is very comfortable with powerful AC. In addition, the location of the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the historical attractions, such as Fort Zeelandia. I would defini… more

Frequently asked questions about Queens Hotel

  • What are the top guest reviews of Queens Hotel?

The top reviews of Queens Hotel are: This was my first time in Suriname and traveling solo. Location (i.e. walkability to sights and eats) and safety were my top 2 priorities for booking a hotel. I chose Queens Hotel based on recent reviews here given their refurbishments. I stayed for 2 nights and loved the hospitality. There are tons of restaurants and bars on Kleine Water Street, as well as around the corner on Van Sommeldijck street too. This hotel is smack right in the heart of the touristic center of Paramaribo, next door to Ramada hotel and across the street from Torarica Resort. I give it 100 for walkability. I decided to try a late lunch at LQD (pronounced Liquid) which is their pool bar run by a super efficient gentleman Raymond who handled all food and drink prep with efficiency. I order Bitterballen and was blown away by the taste! It was scrumptious! Thereafter I had dinner the same night, and then dinner again the following night. The food is affordable compared with the hotels in the area. If i stayed nearby, I would visit just for the food here! My packed takeaways were done well including with all the condiments and sauces. And it was nice to be able to put leftovers in the room fridge and rewarm in the microwave. All the room doors remain open when you check-in so there is fresh hot breeze flowing through. It took a little while for the room to cool down with the AC. The room is on the basic side but had all the expected amenities including a mini fridge, coffee tray & kettle and microwave. I had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool with a little standing balcony. It's so hot out though you won't be standing outside very much. Views are of other buildings around the area but that's fine. The bed was super comfy and I had a good rest on both nights. The blackout drapes worked very well! There was no bar soap, only shower gel / shampoo provided in a small unlabelled plastic pump bottle. I walked to the Shell Gas station shop just a 3 minute stroll away to purchase a soap bar. There, you can pick up snacks, pies, drinks and cooked food too for your room. The shower came on hot right away. In fact, the water was too efficient as I wanted a cold shower and this wasn't possible. Just be careful of the shower lip and tiles can be a little slippery. Overall, I had a really good stay. Breakfast was served on the 1st floor and was more than ample including an egg station where you can order your omelettes. At the end of the my trip, I stayed across the road and it was so noisy from their weekend pool parties that I wished I had booked to stay at Queens Hotel. I was so tempted to check out and go back across the road for peace and quiet. It's truly a lovely little local place to stay in Paramaribo. I highly recommend it..
