“Fabulous - Loved it”

Utterly superb in every way, from the staff, cleanliness, fabulous room. Amazing toiletries, loved it!! Can't wait to go back. I was tired when I arrived and ate in the restaurant, what a treat!!!!! Couldn't recommend highly enough

“A lovely find”

A lovely visit in Basel, staying in a fine hotel. Our room was quite good, lots of space, comfortable, good shower. The location was perfect in the centre of the old town. Their restaurant was very good, service, food and view were all excellent.

We received an email in advance of our stay that there was construction on the road so we wouldn’t be able to have our taxi drop us at the door. We were a little confused by the ear plugs on the pillow instead of a mint or chocolate. But at 7:30 or 8 am, the jackhammers and other very loud construction started. We had the windows open slightly because it was a little warm so that amplified it. The hotel is charming, I just wish I had known and I would have changed our room to the river view side on a higher floor (Our room was on the European first floor (US second floor). The outdoor seating next door was also noisy (a woman screaming, banging on a glass window or door the first night and several men laughing until past 1 am the 2nd night). Even if there is no construction, try to get a higher floor due to the evening sounds.

We arrived at the hotel around 1.30pm after travelling from France. The girls on the desk were lovely, checked if our room was ready, but it wasn't (which is fine), took our bags and it would be ready at 3pm. We went out to the terrace which is amazing right next to the Rhine. We sat at a table and after a few minutes we ordered drinks. The views are lovely and the weather was sunny! (A red wine and a pint of lager is £15.20) At 3pm, we got our key and went to our room. We had a city view room which cost 150.00. It was small, double bed, one chair, sofa and a couple of small tables and a bit bare. There was a couple of pieces of rubbish under the radiator, so I don't think the floor had been cleaned. The bathroom was small, but a great shower and lots of complimentary L'Occitane products to use which was a nice touch. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. However, at 8.01am, the builders in the main street started work and it was noisy, so we gave up and got dressed for breakfast. We paid £26.50 each for breakfast. It is served in a lovely light room overlooking the river. There is a variety of cereals, salad, cold meats, cheese, bread, sausages, boiled eggs and a machine that makes scrambled egg (which made his day!). I'm not sure it was worth the money, but I appreciate where we were staying. The hotel has a 12 noon check out which is nice and the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The location is great and there are plenty of bars, restaurants around you. The old town is a short walk away and definitely worth visiting. All in all, a nice hotel, unfortunately the surrounding construction affects the view from the room and work starts early! I did email raising my concerns and promply received a lovely email back as it's frustrating for the hotel who have no control over the works being carried out.
