While the building is very interesting and the views from the top of the hill are fabulous the rooms themselves are a bit of a disappointment. Beware that not all rooms have an air conditioner which is not clear when you actually book.. We had to upgrade room with AC which was very important because it was extremely hot those days in Lucerne with temperatures around 40°. The room itself was old and somewhat run down the bathtub had a crack in it. It did seem the layout was a little weird because the space in the room was relatively small while the bathroom was extremely big. Breakfast was okay but just okay with limited options overall. We did not eat dinner at the hotel but rather went downtown. The other Advantage the hotel has is that it does have parking but parking is not free and they do charge for it. I would definitely recommend to come for the views and maybe have a drink on the Terrace especially in the evening or at night.

Amazing views and absolutely beautiful building. It unfortunately is not a luxury stay though. Rooms are sparse, many - including ours which was a deluxe room with a lake view so not an ‘entry level’ room - are not air-conditioned, nor were there any in room tea or coffee facilities and some of the furniture looked a bit tired. Our conclusion was that it was too expensive for what it is. We were disappointed with the amount paid for what we got - it was a real shame that breakfast was not included in the price per night. However the staff were friendly and charming (particularly the manager) and the common areas like bar and restaurant are stunning. No gym. Unfortunately we would as a result never stay here again, nor recommend it.

The hotel is lovely over looking lake Luzern. The staff are mostly very helpful and friendly. It is unusual and nicely decorated. It was mostly quiet with only one evening event with music on which was finished by 11pm. However , consider when booking - there is no air conditioning in many rooms despite the hotel advertising they have air con. We booked two rooms and one had a portable (effective but very noisy) unit and the other didn’t. That room was a sweat box and the only offer was more and more fans - which did nothing. We stayed for over a week and this was not the standard of a hotel at this price point you would expect. The units are less than £300 to buy and should be in every room. The heat is clearly going to be an ongoing issue. Travellers should take ear plugs with them so they can sleep when the unit is on! Now to the funicular which takes you up to the hotel - city owned apparently but the only real way to get to the hotel unless you want to uber each time. You can of course also climb the very big hill but don’t underestimate the effort, especially after a long days sight seeing. It is many many flights of steep stairs. When the funicular is working it is great. However, two days into our stay the first lift broke and three days in the second one broke as well. The only way up then was the mentioned hike, uber or the hotel did put on a shuttle which you had to call and wait for. The area around the base of the hill is not great so this would put off some. However the real issue is the amazing number of people wanting to go to the screenings put on by the hotel, the bar and restaurant or indeed the residents at the flats behind the hotel who suddenly appear when the shuttle arrives and elbow you out of the way to dive in. Leaving you, or half your group, stranded or in awkward conversations to try and beg a place. Or alternatively to wait 15 more minutes for the next round trip. Not what you want at the end of the day when you are tired and definitely not workable for going back and forth to the hotel during the day. The shuttle stopped at 9pm so think of this if you want to go out to dinner in Luzern. Now indeed this was all explained away by the hotel…it’s a temporary fix….the residents are part of the agreement…it’s their only way up too. None of which changes the experience of being a paying guest at a supposedly 4.5 star hotel who can’t get easy access to it. Now maybe the funicular won’t break on your stay or maybe you love a good hike up a hill at the end of the day and maybe you’ll get a room with air conditioning and be able to sleep through the noise of a portable unit- so it might well be a lovely hotel for you - but be prepared for these if you want to stay here.
