My husband, 17 yr old son and I recently stayed at Le Meridien for a short stay in Hualien City. We loved the hotel and highly recommend. The hotel is well located in the downtown area near lots of restaurants and shopping. We found it easy to walk everywhere we wanted to visit. We arrived at the train station and it was a quick 10 minute taxi ride to the hotel. A few things struck us about this hotel. First -- it is a beautiful property. The wood finishes throughout the property and our room are beautiful. The wood feature/ceiling in the lobby is stunning! My son really enjoyed the workout and spa facilities. We experienced top notch service during our stay and commend the staff. The breakfast buffet is wonderful (it was included in our reservation). We appreciated the warm welcome from the host at breakfast and great variety of both Taiwanese and American breakfast options. And... a shout out to the front desk staff who helped us secure train tickets back to Taipei. They were very helpful -- especially Darren who came over to the Family Mart to make sure we could figure out the kiosk to buy tickets. Without his help, we might still be there trying to buy tickets! We were always warmly greeted by the front desk and concierge staff. We highly recommend Le Meridien Hualien Resort and will stay there next time we return to the area.

Hualien is a great little resort town. This hotel is one of the best in town, and feels new, despite being there for quite a while. During the holiday season, it was quite empty. I gather that Hualien has been declining in popularity since the big earthquake a couple of years ago (there was a 6.4 earthquake while we were there, and the hotel swayed for 3 minutes, but was perfectly safe), but we found our stay so relaxing. The pebble beaches are not for swimming, but we spent hours on the beach looking for sea glass and just enjoying the sun. The hotel staff are excellent, the property is clean and located really close to some shopping, the night market, an old Japanese barracks that now houses interesting shops and restaurants, and the beach. The breakfast was not as elaborate as others in Taiwan, but it was adequate. The staff were super helpful. Le Meridien goes for this luxe casual thing and they nailed it with lobby and room design, with the whole vibe of the pool area and garden. We had two rooms for four people. That worked great. The rooms are large and have great furniture.

I had high hopes for my recent stay at Le Meridien Hualien, drawn by the brand's reputation for sophisticated design and thoughtful touches. The hotel's modern, chic decor is indeed a highlight which is sleek, stylish, and very Instagram worthy. The location is another plus. It is right in central Hualien, just a short taxi ride from the train station, and within easy walking distance of many excellent local eateries. Breakfast was solid, with good quality ingredients and a decent range of choices to start the day. On a positive note, the staff were polite and friendly throughout my stay. Unfortunately, as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, I was left disappointed by the lack of expected recognition. There were no welcome amenities in the room . Only a personalized card, which felt unusually minimal for a Le Meridien property. A simple card is fine, but without even a small gesture like a snack or drink, it came across as indifferent. Moreover, no suite upgrade was available, despite the hotel appearing mostly empty and quiet during my stay. The elite member happy hour also needs work. Afternoon tea was offered, but with no selection whatsoever. I simply received whatever was served, which is frankly appalling for a brand at this level. Elite members expect at least some choices. The public hot spring was another letdown. It didn't live up to expectations, as the facility only came with an outdoor pool and there is no indoor pool. To make matters worse, no aftercare amenities like body lotion were provided in the locker area. Overall, Le Meridien Hualien nails the aesthetics, location, and friendly service, but falls short on the loyalty perks and wellness amenities that discerning travelers expect. If you're booking as a standard guest, you'll likely enjoy the stay.

The room was nice and modern, but the service needs improvement. Check-in was at 3 PM, but when we arrived on time, the room wasn’t ready. They claimed the delay was because they were setting up a baby crib for us. That was untrue. When the room was finally ready around 3:30 PM, there was no baby crib. It didn’t arrive until 8 PM, by which time we no longer needed it. The room also wasn’t properly prepared. A personalized card addressed to someone else was left in the room. There was no hand soap or body lotion provided—I had to call and request them. This is far from a 5-star experience. As for the swimming pool, guests are required to wear swimming caps, but no caps were provided. Who travels with a swimming cap? Not everyone is training for the Olympics.
