“Comfortable and well furbished B&B”

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel, very clean services and the rooms are spacious. Hotel is in a very nice location, however it is not that close to the train station or city center. Only a short ride in i think $150TWD.

We stayed at ManMan in October 2018. Overall it’s an excellent tidy, modern, well laid-out B&B with room for improvement, especially for travellers who don’t confidently speak Mandarin or Taiwanese. Important note: there are actually two ManMans, both run by the same family. We emailed staff a week before to clarify which ManMan was which. After not getting a response, we gave the taxi driver the address that was on our email confirmation. Needless to say, it was the wrong address. On arrival, the lovely woman at the front desk helped us. Despite her not speaking any English, and us speaking almost nil Mandarin or Taiwanese, we were able to arrange a taxi – at no extra cost – using a combo of Google Translate and sign language. The ManMan we stayed at was at 花蓮縣花蓮市府前路308-3號 (No. 308, Fuqian Road, Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan 970). We’ve updated Google Maps with this new location so hopefully that’ll help future visitors. If you’re planning to visit Hualien’s surrounds and Taroko Gorge, be aware this is quite a distance from the train station. It’s around a 40-minute walk to the excellent Night Markets. If you’re English speaking, we recommend booking tours with Island Life Taiwan, who are reasonably-priced, super professional and can do pick-up/drop-off from ManMan itself. PROS: • Friendly family-run business • Incredibly comfortable bed and clean, decent bathroom • Cleaning and tidying service is faultless • Decent (40 min) walk between ManMan and night markets – good if you enjoy walking before and after dinner • Well-stocked 7-11 on the corner with ATM, snacks, coffee and everything else you’ll need • Laundry is available upon request • Good dumpling and bubble tea shops on the same road CONS: • Not the most convenient location • It isn't made clear which ManMan is which on the website • Limited assistance offered with transport, tour-planning or sightseeing • Greasy and overly-sweet breakfasts sourced from local takeaway shops (however 7-11 has healthy alternatives in a two-minute walk)
