Just returned from an amazing 10 day holiday at the Blue Reef Bungalows. The location is great, right on the beach front. The bungalow is basic but has a comfortable bed and everything you need with the bar and breakfast restaurant literally a few steps away. The food in the Blue Reef restaurant is varied and really tasty and the pizzas at the bungalows are also excellent. There are also lots of other beach front restaurants to choose from and we tried many of them. The Blue Reef bar is open later and has a buzz in the evenings, the bungalow bar is much quieter. The beach is stunning, however you do get pestered constantly by the sellers which got very tiring by the end (the cashew nuts are so good!). When the tide is out you can walk for about a mile across the beach and still have water below waist height and it is the most beautiful turquoise sea. Jambiani village is not what I expected at all, but never having been to Africa before I really didn’t know what to expect. Don’t expect the “shops” to be anything like they are in Europe! However it really gives you an insight into local life. You do have to barter for everything though as they start with very high prices! My son played football with the locals on the beach most evenings which he really enjoyed. We went on a day safari over to Mikumi Park for one day and had the most fantastic time. A real bucket list dream – a day was enough for me but we saw elephants up close, giraffes, lions, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and much more. We also visited Stonetown for an afternoon which was the busiest place I’ve ever encountered in my life! Another great experience but it was great to come back to Blue Reef to relax. What really makes it special are the staff - Simba, Wilhemina and Evelyn at the bungalows and Emannuel in the Blue Reef restaurant, the bar boys and Roby are fantastic. So friendly and looked after us so well with an enthusiastic welcome every single time we saw them (and delicious cocktails!) Would highly recommend if you want great staff, a beautiful beach and to experience local life.

“Emmanuel makes dining at the Blue Reef special!”

The food was very good but what stood out was our amazing waiter Emmanuel!!! There were nine of us, many of us paying separately. He started off by getting all of our drink orders perfectly, and then did the same with all nine food orders! The food was interesting and quite tasty – the chef came out to say hello to us as the meal ended. Emmanuel checked in on us regularly and got us anything we needed. After we were done he handled each bill personally and everything was again exactly right. Overall, a wonderful experience!

I recently stayed at Blue Reef Fishing Lodge on Zanzibar and had an incredible experience from start to finish. This place truly feels like a hidden gem! The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every meal was a treat, and you can tell the kitchen puts a lot of care and attention into every dish. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, and perfectly suited for a relaxing stay. The rooms are well-maintained and have a very cozy, beachy charm that makes you feel right at home. The bar is a great place to unwind in the evenings, with a relaxed vibe and excellent drinks. Whether you're enjoying a cold beer or a fresh cocktail, it’s the perfect spot to end the day with a view of the ocean. What really makes Blue Reef special is the staff and the owners. They are incredibly welcoming, kind, and always ready to help with anything you need. You can feel that they genuinely care about making your stay as enjoyable as possible. Whether you're coming for fishing, relaxation, or just to enjoy the beauty of Zanzibar, I highly recommend Blue Reef Fishing Lodge. It's a place where you arrive as a guest and leave feeling like part of the family.

My family and I had an amazing stay (12 days) at Blue Reef Bungalows over Christmas! The location is unbeatable—right on the best part of the beach, with great views and direct access to the beach. The food was very good and diverse! We had a very special christmas dinner with the best live music that I've heard in a while. A special mention goes to the staff and owners, who were incredibly warm and welcoming. Nikie helped us plan activities and gave recommendations. One of the highlights of our stay was the fishing trip they organized for us—it was, hands down, the best family fishing experience we've ever had. It is truely a beautiful place to stay in Jambiani, and we hope to come again! Many many thanks to all of Blue reef :).
