Bit of a mixed bag here. Great location with nice views. The staff are very nice so that helps heaps. However, we were given some wrong advice at check in (eg told Grab ride service doesn't run in Chiang Khong when we later found out it does, told they couldn't take a digital card for payment when their machine does indeed have paywave capability and we had to show the receptionist how it worked; this was important to us as we wanted to use our debit Revolut/Wise card and not use a back up credit card). My husband and I were also asked if we prefer a room with a queen/king bed or two twin beds; we confirmed a queen/king bed but we were then placed in a room with two single beds... not at biggie but just seemed odd after our check in discussion at reception). The hotel itself is very tired with old bathroom grouting, chips off the wall plaster, towels down in the common hallways to soak up water leaking from windows, lots of condensation, leaking hoses in the bathroom and loose tap fittings. They promote environmental things like not having sheets and towels changed daily which we highly applaud but then they still use single use 30ml shampoo and body wash containers (just change to refillable bottles and avoid the plastic!). We also struck the hotel when their restaurant was closed which of course can happen and it wasnt a problem for my husband and I to walk about 700m down the road for dinner but if I had been traveling alone, I would not have wanted to walk around at night in a strange city on my own...(maybe they could have helped me with that if that had been the situation?). Back to some positives : The room was clean, the safe in the room was excellent (anchored down and intuitive; something we haven't always found in our 5 weeks travelling in Asia), the bathrobes and slippers really appreciated, there are free bikes on offer, and the beds and linens comfie. We felt safe. Overall, we had a good night's sleep and it was fine for a one night stay. I would stay again I suppose but set your expectations. Hopefully they can do some serious sprucing up, do some staff training about things like Grab and digital payment methods, and make this place really great!
