The thing that really screams at you about this place is the price! One night in an average chain hotel in central Bangkok could buy you 3 or 4 nights here. I’m not knocking hostels, I have stayed in them and loved them, but as I get older, their appeal starts to wane, however I think we are in the high end hostel territory price wise and you get so much more for your money here. Before going too far though, I should acknowledge that Paeva is not central Bangkok – according to their own website, they are over 20km on the wrong side of the airport (I wonder if they are overestimating as it took us less than 30 min to get there and only about 20 min to get back to the airport in the morning (about THB250 in a metered taxi which I thought was pretty good!). Traffic was light - if you have visited Bangkok before you will appreciate that this is very far from normal in this super busy city! We visited on a Saturday night and they were advertising a free shuttle service the next morning to the nearest BTS/Skytrain (metro) station. I don’t know if this is daily, but a train fare to the centre is really cheap and the journey is reasonably fast. The room was great, a very generous size. The bed was large and very comfortable with soft clean sheets. The end wall was dominated by full height glass doors with both a thick net / lace curtain and normal curtains. Another wall had a long desk across its whole length with a good sized TV in the middle and desk spaces and chairs at either end with storage above. Wifi was strong and fast but I noticed a network socket which may or may not have been live. A sort of kitchenette was by the entrance - no serious cooking facilities, but a large fridge, a sink, microwave and kettle. After a long flight, I emptied the minibar (fridge - whatever) of beer and the price was cheap! The bathroom was also a good size - the shower was electrically heated, so the pressure is not exceptional, but on the bright side, everybody in the hotel can shower at the same time and there will be no shortage of hot water. We didn’t have a chance to go into the pool because we arrived too late and left too early, but after getting off a 16 hour flight it looked amazing - we did sit for a while on the balcony which was very nice indeed. Unfortunately the restaurant had closed early the day we visited, I was happy to walk down to the local 7-11 to pick up a quick meal but the hotel insisted on driving us in their tuk-tuk. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any restaurants nearby. We visited Paeva basically as an airport stopover - airport hotels seemed to get poor to average reviews at best but we had a personal recommendation for here. If you are visiting Bangkok for a day or two and want to tick off the tourist sights, this is probably a bit far from town for you. If you are visiting for longer and want the hotel experience at (high end) hostel prices, this could be the place for you. I don’t know when or if I will next visit Thailand, but I would certainly stay here again!
