Our couple of nights in Alnwick were made truly memorable due to our wonderful stay at the Cookie Jar. Perfection it was. Debbie has created a beautiful haven of stylish and homely hospitality. We met Debbie when we arrived who was in the garden polishing the glass table tops. A hotel owner clearly with an eye for the details that set establishments apart. We enjoyed a local beer and a glass of rose whilst we immersed ourselves in the peace, tranquility and luxury of the Cookie Jar. Debbie gave us some excellent sightseeing tips. Everything was perfect. Our kind of hotel without a doubt. You must dine here. The small kitchen team are amazing. The menu makes your head hurt with the delicious options of a carefully crafted selection of dishes. The monkfish , duo of lamb and the chicken palliard were very special. The service was exemolary .The breakfast was also exceptional and our lady server was a ray of morning sunshine. Underpinning every wonderful hotel is the staff and the Cookie Jar has some of the best we have met. Warm, friendly, helpful, informative, genuine, professional, thoughtful, charming are just a few words to capture our experience. Other hotels may have recently opened in Alnwick centre but the Cookie Jar is the place to stay for the discerning traveller.

Of all the many hotels that we have stayed in over the years, for leisure or business, the Cookie Jar is among the very best. Our room was well appointed and comfortable with a spacious bathroom and high quality products. There’s a comfortable lounge. The bistro serves excellent food, with a menu of fresh, seasonal food. But what really defines this lovely hotel is the experience of engaging with the team. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and at ease. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone took time to chat with us and offer tips on where to go and where to eat. Over the six days during which we stayed, we came to know and like all the team. It was a particular pleasure to meet Debbie, whose hotel this is and who is often present. It’s clear that this is a team which works happily together and is wonderfully well led, and that is reflected in their relationship with guests. We look forward to returning. By the way, despite the extremely hot weather in July, we were able to stay cool using a fan which was supplied in the room. It had a setting on it which made it run continuously, so we were able to cool the room at all times.

“The Cookie Jar - Weekend overnight stay”

Louise on reception was the perfect host. Parking not the best unfortunately as the parking outside and around the hotel is limited to two hours only. Louise on reception was the perfect host. Parking not the best unfortunately as the parking outside and around the hotel is limited to two hours only. We parked a short distance away, slightly out of sight from the hotel. Room was pleasant, however a little too warm for sleeping and the small tower fan supplied had a timer.. which resulted in waking up several times during the night to re-set. Room needs more ventilation. Good quality bed linen and comfy bed. For reference our room was Sweethope Lough Tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch, however when going downstairs in the morning to collect milk from the fridge, there was no milk! Would be a good idea to supply a couple of small UHT milks to enable a morning brew. Cookies were delicious. The Bistro/Dining Room was a lovely place to dine, however evening meal prices are way too high compared to local fayre and set meal prices need to be individualised. This was apparent as we dined alone. Breakfast selection was very good. Fruit, Yoghurts, Cereal, Juices & Tea/Coffee all amazing. Cooked breakfast was average in our opinion. Presented well but lacked a little flavour. Some lovely seating areas in and outside the Hotel for relaxing. The honestly bar on an evening was a nice touch. Overall a pleasant stay, however the few issues mentioned need consideration.
