Hotel itself- Good enough location With a Small walk into town, so not as close as other hotels, but manageable. The underground Car park was easy to find and has an entrance directly into the hotel, which is handy. The room was pleasant and Clean. There was a nice fragrance pumped into the room. My only complaint was that the blackout curtains didn’t close completely. There was aircon and usual basic amenities. The tv also had Netflix if you can figure out how to set up the network using your phone via the hotel WiFi. The bed was super comfy. Food- breakfast was basic: A beefeater would be better. It was a small self-serve buffet. By the time I got there (2 hours into breakfast) the bacon was hard and dry, the tomatoes were burnt and dry, The cut fruit was not very fresh, and I couldn’t finish it. Disappointing for a spa hotel. Edit; the bacon was much nicer on the Sunday morning, because chef had to make another batch due to being busier! Evening meal- it was very empty in the restaurant, which felt awkward. The drink menus were printed on bits of paper, not very professional looking. The setting felt very casual. The food itself on the first night was surprisingly quite nice. The second night however, it was mediocre.There was no option to add the bill to your room, which was disappointing. I was also a bit off-put by the server coughing all around the bar and dining area. Spa- this stressed me out just trying to book. It’s normally £10 fee to use the pool and spa facilities each day when using the hotel. At check-in I asked reception how I could just book treatments (didn’t want to use pool etc), and was told I would need to pay the fee just to enter as well as the treatment, and to book it with the spa upstairs. I tried to book a massage online but it wasn’t available (but there was time for other 55 min treatments), so I thought I’d try asking someone. I went upstairs to the spa, who told me to go downstairs to the gym entrance to book, which I did. I stood there for a good 5 minutes, clearing my throat, before the guy acknowledged me, and told me they don’t do any bookings in person, it’s all online. Such a shame that I couldn’t have a real person to explain what was available and what to do! When it came to the time of my treatment, I arrived afew minutes early in the spa, to be told to go down to the gym reception to check in and fill a form out and then use the back stairs to go all the way up again! I ended up being late to the appointment slot. No where online did it say to arrive half hour early, which the therapist recommended. This would have been much simpler if I could have spoken to a human who knew what they were talking about and could explain the process to me! The whole ordeal of trying to get a treatment stressed me out, when it was supposed to be a treat. The treatment itself was excellent. The therapist lovely, and spa area nice. Overall, I get the impression this hotel is disorganised. It has so much potential but lets itself down on annoying but easily rectifiable things, including Staff training.

Would have been a rating of 2 but the room was ok overall - clean but window exterior needed a good clean to enjoy the views from floor 14. Reception staff ok but no pleasantries, not particularly welcoming and no information about the facilities. There is an extra charge of £10 per person to us… more

Would have been a rating of 2 but the room was ok overall - clean but window exterior needed a good clean to enjoy the views from floor 14. Reception staff ok but no pleasantries, not particularly welcoming and no information about the facilities. There is an extra charge of £10 per person to use the spa (the pool was out of order). Also charged an additional fee to store two small bags for a few hours. We travel to Cardiff frequently but wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
