Stayed for one night before travelling to a conference in Oxford the following morning. The staff were super friendly and professional. The room was very small but clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable, lovely selection of different teas/coffees and even hot chocolate which I appreciated! The downsides: I drew the short straw with rooms I guess and had one directly next to the main door in and out of all rooms meaning I could hear it slamming shut constantly. Having said that, I didn’t hear it past about 11pm so it wasn’t the end of the world. The floors are very old and creaky as others have mentioned but I didn’t mind that. The shower was extremely small so it was pretty impossible to turn around, or move at all really. When the bathroom light is switched on, the fan runs and doesn’t stop for at least 20 mins so that’s a bit irksome. WiFi was quite slow. I was told to register for the app and spin to win a free drink or dessert but the app didn’t work at all, I tried multiple times- oh well. The heating also wasn’t on so I had to do this myself by turning the radiator dial- the room was a bit chilly! Banbury itself is a bit rough. I lived in Oxford for some time and never felt unsafe as a solo woman at night but did feel a bit wary here- just a note. All in all it was good for the night and a decent price!

It's an old building and they have tried to bring the rooms up to a reasonable standard. They're ok but I feel they could still improve further including the shower cubicle in our room 17 which was mouldy, as were the window sills. It's not a good look. It's an old building and they have tried to bring the rooms up to a reasonable standard. They're ok but I feel they could still improve further including the shower cubicle in our room 17 which was mouldy, as were the window sills. It's not a good look. However it's some of the staff that let this hotel down, sadly we were constantly made to feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Throughout our visit we had to conform to things which were being done to make their life easier and not benefiting our stay. The final straw was a door being jammed open ,which we were told was to help their breakfast service, which caused a terrible draught into the room where we were sat for breakfast. We asked them if we could close it for that reason but they explained at length why this wasn't possible as it would cause them issues. 'Don't put out any more strawberries', said one staff member to another in my earshot as I put some in my bowl for breakfast, 'as we won't have any left for tomorrow'. But if you're on a budget, you may have more tolerance for this type of approach.
