Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel

“Perfect”

I stayed at this hotel with a friend of mine. The atmosphere was relaxing and elegant.Best hotel to stay around Bath. Truly appreciate the warm hospitality.

Spent two days here on a short getaway. The hotel is in a beautiful area sourrended by trees and nature. The room had a quite spacious bathroom and pretty much had everything we needed (maybe some more coffee capsules could've been provided as there was a capsule coffee machine in the room). There are only 2 saunas a steam room a salt room and an ice room so don't expect a massive spa facility but they were really nice and you could easily spend hours going between the rooms and cooling off in on of the pools. The breakfast service was excellent and the staff were friendly and professional, the food was also delicious (had one of the best black puddings there). Overall a really pleasant experience.

Our stay at this hotel was interesting to say the least!! Our room was lovely, with a big bathroom and was clean and comfortable. We made our way to the spa for our first treatment. As we walked into the spa the lovely scent of the hotel suddenly turns MUSTY. Which wasn’t very inviting. We walked past the pool to get to the treatment rooms and were underwhelmed. As we entered the treatment rooms no one was there to greet us, as we helped ourselves to the forms to fill in, a couple of staff walked in and failed to acknowledge us. Then they left again. Eventually we were greeted and taken to our treatment rooms. My facial was okay but my therapist was very odd to say the least. The head massage whilst my face was soaking felt like my hair was being ripped out! My mum said hers felt extremely speedy and her therapist had very few things to say. After our treatments we made our way to the thermospa to avoid the grubby pools. The steam room was so steamy I couldn’t even see my mum across the other side of the room and the salt room was not very salty. The area was generally RUN DOWN and GRUBBY, so we left after ten minutes. After returning to our room desperate for a cup of tea we realised we were out of tea bags, so I used the number in the room to ring reception… this rang to somewhere in Scotland. So I tried the QR code instead which again sent me to the same number. After finding the correct number online I asked for some teabags and milk… 40mins later they still hadn’t arrived so I rang again. I was told “yes the man is on his way now”, however the teabags never arrived. We made our way down to dinner, thinking we’d have a nice drink before we sat down to eat. There was lots of people sitting with a drink but could we find a barman? Nope. After ten minutes of wandering around like lost puppies we eventually came across someone to serve us. Then the REAL FUN BEGAN… We ordered two passion fruit motitos and well.. we were transported to the scene on Love Actually when Rowan Atkinson was gift wrapping a necklace. After lots of mint crushing and ice adding, a lost knife then found, not forgetting the glasses getting repeatedly whipped by a sprig of mint. Finally after another addition of crushed ice and a slice of lime (which fell off and got put back on again) we finally got our drinks. We made it to the patio where we fell apart it FITS of laughter. By the time we went to drink our drinks the SOGGY straws were about useless because it had taken so long. Dinner was very nice, apart from the fact that we had dinner “included” in our package, up to £30per head which anyone would like to think was plenty for dinner. But it was £50 for two courses, so we decided against the wine list! When we came to paying the bill that we expected to be around £40, it was actually £58 because of the additional service charge and a £5 bottle of water! So be aware of this! After dinner we needed the toilet, could we find the bloody toilet? Nope! After asking at reception, the directions they gave us were inaccurate and once again we were wandering around like LOST PUPPIES. Anyway… despite the above we found this all very entertaining and went bed with the giggles. Breakfast was okay, the service was good. Orange juice and Greek yogurt were not very fresh. We were disgusted by the fact that pretty much anything other than a full English was an extra £6, ridiculous! Our waiter was lovely however the other waitress we heard swearing and putting her Vs up to a colleague! Our second treatments were perfectly pleasant. Deep tissue massage was very deep and firm! And my therapist was less strange this time around! In summary, although our time away was very entertaining the hotel needs better trained staff and less additional charges.
