“Fantastic Hotel and Location”

We stayed at The Burlington which is directly outside the train station. Brilliant location and quiet considering it’s a busy place. Lovely staff at the hotel too. Mini looked after us she is so lovely and very welcoming. Would definitely recommend staying there and we will be staying there again.

“Disappointing and noisy stay”

First impressions of the hotel were sadly rather poor, as the glass doors at the entrance of the hotel were smeared with hand and fingerprints. Such a shame, as it is a gorgeous historic building. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming, and the room was spotlessly clean. Fabulous bathroom, very bright and clean, but the decor in the room itself was drab and dingy, and all the more oppressive because you couldn't open the windows. The room was quite hot due to unseasonable April weather, but you could neither open the windows, nor adjust the air conditioning below 22 degrees. The air con itself was noisy, but I've been in hotels before where you can disable it by removing the key card to the electicity, if it's too loud at night. This, however, did not solve the main issue with the room. Lying back on the bed, it felt like the entire bed was vibrating. I thought it was the air con, so took the card out and stumbled back to the bed in the pitch darkness and lay down. Not only was it still vibrating, but when I lay on my side, it sounded like I was trying to sleep on top of a generator. I have never in my life experienced such an awful droning buzzing noise, coming directly through the bed into the pillow. I can't sleep on my back, and so I could not escape the sound. A 2am flick through TripAdvisor reviews showed I wasn't the only person to experience this. Adding to this droning, there was also the sound of Friday night screaming from the street and the trams screeching past until midnight! The unopenable windows weren't very good at sound protection! At 5am, I had a brainwave of moving the pillows to the foot of the bed, and trying to sleep upside down, and this improved the droing noise considerably. By then, however, I was past trying to sleep, so I got up and spent the entire day feeling ill, which spoilt my trip. When I left the hotel after checking out, I walked along the road outside and found the source of the noise - my room was directly above a huge - what I assume to be - a giant air conditioning vent, making a racket. Given that I was on the 4th floor, I pity the people on the floors directly below me. It must have been like trying to sleep on board the Artemis rocket. Breakfast was OK for a city centre hotel. The meat was decent quality, though you only got one paltry mushroom and an overcooked deep fried frozen hash brown. No choice of toast, just plain white bread. You couldn't even order anything else other than a standard or veggie cooked breakfast from the menu without a £5 surcharge, which was odd. Again, the glass doors to the entrance of the restarant were smeared with fingerprints, which doesn't inspire you with confidence as to the cleanliness of the kitchen! I was disappointed with my stay, all in all, and will try elsewhere on my visit to Birmingham next year.

“A bit disappointing”

Grand entrance and reception but rooms very basic decor. For the price we paid I would have expected bottled water
