The meal at New Hall Hotel in Sutton Coldfield was excellent. The food was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and cooked to a very high standard. The setting added to the experience, with a lovely atmosphere and attentive service throughout. Overall, it was a really enjoyable dining experience and I’d happily recommend it for a special occasion or a relaxed, high-quality meal.

What a fantastic place to stay. A stunning location, super friendly service from everyone and great attention to detail. Except …. Some of the food. I had fish and chips, a staple for the British but the first time I have left the fish. Terrible, flaccid batter, barely any fish and an odd taste. It really felt like a frozen piece you’d buy from a supermarket (I’m sorry to say). Chips and accompaniments were excellent. Breakfast - again, scrambled egg…smelled off the moment it arrived and tasted similar. I’m sure it was homemade but again I had to leave it. It was unpleasant. The only other point of note is we chose this hotel as it had a pool. We arrived at 4.15pm to be told kids can only swim between 3-5pm! Can you believe that ! We wouldn’t want to upset those fuddy-duddy adults that don’t want noise and to be able to do their lengths ! Nonsense. So, yes I would go back but would think twice about eating which is a shame particularly when it isn’t cheap.

We visited New Hall to celebrate my birthday. A few days before our visit I needed to check that we were booked in the restaurant for dinner. I rang the number and no-one answered after 5 minutes so I tried a different number and Julia Hands recorded message said I was being directed to operator which never happened. It took almost an hour of repeatedly phoning to eventually speak to a person. I wondered what would happen if i wanted to contact a guest with an urgent message. The room was spacious and there were two armchairs unlike other places where only one is provided. We were able to sit on the terrace for an afternoon drink which was very enjoyable until a group of smokers appeared. There was not a designated smoking area. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate and when asked what we could order were informed 'anything'. Fortunately, the couple on the next table told us that we were allowed up to £45 each otherwise we may have had to pay the extra. My husband ordered soup and it arrived without any bread. When the waiter was asked for some bread he said there would be an extra charge. It took so long to arrive that the miniscule amount of soup had already been eaten. After waiting almost an hour for our main course I asked the waiter how long it would be and was informed that 'chef is preparing it now'. On leaving the restaurant the waiter said that he would not charge for the bread. I think he could see that we were not best pleased with the service. New Hall is a beautiful place and bar and reception staff were very helpful and friendly. They need to sort out the smoking issue and poor service in restaurant.
