“Slightly disappointed from previous visits”

A lovely experience for lunch in the sunshine . As a preference we sat outside and we thoroughly understand why we have to pay inside and go inside for your drinks, My personal problem was my fishmongers plate or board bore no resemblance to the menu.

Stayed here for one night as I was meeting a friend who lives in the area and I needed somewhere to stay the night before. The hotel / pub is quite a large pub off an A road. But I was reassured by the person checking me in that the road was quiet at night as most of the hotel rooms including mine appeared to be at the front of the building. There was a large car park at the side of the pub and there was a terrace so that people using the pub could sit outside in the sun. The pub was surrounded by trees and shrubs and felt quite peaceful. All the rooms are at the top of a flight of stairs, there did not appear to be any accessible rooms or a lift. My room was a large double on the corner of the building so had double aspect windows. It was well furnished and there was tea and coffee provided. The towels provided in the shower room were quite new and still white and fluffy. However weirdly the toilet seat was a completely different shape to the toilet and did not fit very well. The key to my room did not work that well either but those were my only concerns. I had dinner but no breakfast. I ordered the cod and chips, and although I’d ordered a small portion it was actually quite large. It was very tasty, the chips were cooked well and the batter on the cod was excellent.

We stayed at the hotel as it was close to a family event we were attending. For the high price for our stay, it wasn't great value for money for a number of reasons, the general decor in the bedroom and bathroom dated and tired. The shower is the most basic and kept switching to bath filling up rather than shower head. Extractor fan didn't work which steamed up the room and mirror and condensation on walls. The bed was very uncomfortable , very hard so not a good night sleep. The walls very thin, as could hear people on corridor and next room conversations, their shower running and hairdryer. Breakfast was ok. The service and politeness of staff at breakfast and checking in was 5*
