Last minute we decided to book a 4-Day mini break (My Parents, Wife and Kids), Somewhere near Studland/Poole/Christchurch. Wick, famous for its riverside heritage, wick ferry, an 18th-century smuggling outpost, later in mid-century becoming a holiday camp on the banks of the Stour River where the Victorian tourism boom saw regular visitors to the area, and now a modern luxury riverside destination. Not staying at the Captains Club before, and given last minute search, we were not sure what stay would be like, but it delivered a true ‘wow factor’ that transformed our pre-stay assumptions into an unforgettable stay! We enjoyed several excursions including local visits to the park, a trip on the river taxi, kayaking, a walk to Hengistbury Head and back, and swimming at the beach (Only minutes away and with Free Parking). Nestled along the tranquil riverside, the hotel offered an exclusive retreat where nature and refinement converged. The riverside setting was enhanced by a generous outdoor patio, perfect for morning coffee with a view of the Stour Creek, watching the rowing boats, yachts and cruisers passing by, or enjoying evening with a few sundowner cocktails. We were able to unwind in the spacious, light-filled suites, each thoughtfully designed with contemporary elegance and offering sweeping vistas of the river, creating a serene backdrop for rest and relaxation. Our suite was a sanctuary of modern luxury, meticulous attention to detail that reflected the hotels commitment to excellence. The hotels grounds and thoughtfully curated communal spaces encourage guests to linger, socialise, or simply enjoy a moment of quiet reflection in an atmosphere of understate sophistication. Culinary excellence is at the heart of the guest experience, with restaurant and bar offering a high standard of food and drink that rivals your standard hotel or restaurant. Menus showcase seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, expertly prepared to delight even the most discerning palates, while the bar serves an impressive selection of wines, spirits, and handcrafted cocktails. While dining al fresco on the patio or enjoying the indoor light restaurant, we were treated to an impeccable service and a dining experience that complimented the hotels overall ethos of luxury, comfort, connection to its riverside surroundings. What made the stay extra special was that your staff were prepared to cope with the demands of even the most exacting customer. The staff made the stay truly special through their warm, friendly, and welcoming. They were consistently happy, approachable, and attentive, creating a relaxed atmosphere in which we felt valued from the moment we arrived. Their genuine enthusiasm and willingness to help went beyond simply meeting expectations; they anticipated our needs and made every interaction feel personal and guest focused. It was also particularly encouraging to see more experienced members of the team actively supporting and mentoring newer staff. Their guidance was delivered with patience and encouragement, helping new colleagues grow in confidence while maintaining the high standard of service. The strong sense of teamwork was evident throughout the stay and contributed significantly to the welcoming, professional, and enjoyable experience. To note, we went to the Boat House Restaurant for dinner on the second night and due to the poor level of friendliness and service, we decided to return to hotel for dinner on the third evening.

Been here many times as a couple, with family and with friends. Never disappoints Had lunch on the terrace twice in the past month. The food was excellent with friendly professional service. Prices are not cheap, and we did choose some of the more expensive options each time, but it was worth ever… more
