“A very charming hotel”

A heatwave was forecast for the last week of May 2026, so I decided to book a few days in lovely Bournemouth. I chose The Hermitage because of its perfect location near the beach. I have mobility difficulties so knew that this hotel was perfect as it wasn't based on a steep hill. Having stayed in previous hotels perched on steep hills, I couldn't risk struggling uphill again. I loved this hotel because it has a quintessential charm about it. I was given a large double room overlooking the sea. I'd phoned earlier to request a room with a shower. It was explained that they would try their hardest to accommodate me. To my delight, my request was granted and I had a lovely comfortable room on the third floor. I'd also ordered a beautiful bouquet and a delicious fruit platter. These were in my room upon my arrival. I'm so pleased that I had such a comfortable room because later that evening I was smitten with heat exhaustion, due to a very long journey on the train in the blistering heat. So I actually stayed in my hotel room for 2 days - covered up with a duvet and a hot water bottle because of painful cramps in my legs. I managed to eat in the restaurant on 2 nights (on the second night my friends joined me for dinner) and I also managed breakfast on 2 mornings. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the breakfast was good and plentiful. I really enjoyed the entertainment on Tuesday night. She was a fantastic singer with loads of personality! Her songs took me down memory lane. Sadly on Thursday I was still feeling very unwell, so my friend who lives in Poole, drove me all the way home to Wembley because she could sense that I was in no fit state to catch the train the following day. So I checked out a day earlier. Feeling so unwell, I was just so relieved to have such a comfortable room to relax in. All of the staff at The Hermitage were lovely and very attentive. Thank you so much for such a positive experience. I must admit, I didn't check at the time of booking if the hotel had accessible rooms. Unfortunately, I have 4 stars because although I was grateful to have a room with a shower, there was a step to get into it and also there were no grab rails. So I used my walking stick as a support to step out of the shower. Also, there was not much space in the bathroom to store your toiletries AND no drawers to place your clothes/smalls in the room, although there was ample hanging space in the cupboard for garments. Other than that, despite being ill - I can highly recommend this charming hotel and look forward to staying there again. Thank you Hermitage Hotel
