I have stayed at the Cumberland Hotel several times and this year's stay was for over 5 weeks due to family illness. I also organised the Past Mayor's Dinner ( Bournemouth Mayors) at the Hotel and it was excellent. The staff went far and beyond their duties and prepared the room first class as always. We will be fhaving this annual event at the Cumberland and everyone is looking forward to next year. I now live in Spain but the Cumberland is my second home. Staff, service and the food is first class. All the staff are a credit to their profession. Family and friends shared lovely meals and a delicious savoury and sweet afternoon tea. Sadly my sister isn't well but the staff were amazing welcoming her on her several visits with friends and family. Nothing was too much trouble. I will be having my 70th birthday there in December! Friends from the Netherlands are joining us in December and lots of family and friends are staying overnight they won't be disappointed. Anne Kidner

“Wonderful”

Beautiful hotel on the front, exceptional service from everyone! Food & drink was excellent also. Rooms very clean and comfortable, I know how hard everyone in hospitality works as I was a chambermaid myself! Would not hesitate to come back or recommend you to others.

Just has the Easter Sunday Lunch menu, you really cannot fault the quality and service, we had Chantelle, only 17 but what an asset to the team she is, warm, helpful, chatty, and nithing to much trouble, lovely member of staff . . ... two courses for £23.50 each or£26.50 for three, walk up buffet style for starters, wonderful fresh fish and pate options, I could have filled my plate with fresh crayfish or smoked salmon etc had I wished ( I didn't of course ) Roadt Beef & Lamb was plentiful and hardly any fat to be seen .....all in all a very substancial lunch that was worth every penny, I thought the premium cocktails quite expensive at £12.50 each, certainly not worth that amount, but it is a clifftop Hotel so maybe expected ( by some ) but other than that very very good indeed.

“Underwhelming!”

Slightly underwhelmed with our Easter Sunday lunch yesterday. First disappointment was when we entered the hotel with the intention of sitting outside in the sun on the terrace with a nice G&T before our lunch which was booked for 2pm. Slightly underwhelmed with our Easter Sunday lunch yesterday. First disappointment was when we entered the hotel with the intention of sitting outside in the sun on the terrace with a nice G&T before our lunch which was booked for 2pm. They've had all winter to do building work etc so why would you do it at the start of the season? We traipsed round to their other hotel next door, The Suncliff, to get a drink and sit on their terrace. Traipsed back to The Cumberland for our lunch at 2pm. Restaurant very busy but given a nice table in The Mirabelle restaurant. They used to have a pianist years ago but no sign of one yesterday? Buffett starters very sparse! Despite being advertised as good selection of Seafood and Charcuterie it looked half empty and unappealing, not a prawn in sight! I understand our booking was at the later end of the lunch service but should have been adequately replenished. On a positive note the Roast Beef we both had was plentiful and delicious so couldn't fault that! Roast potatoes lovely but wasn't overkeen on the Yorkshire pudding which was herby! Why is it necessary to spoil a perfectly good Yorkshire pud with herbs? Carrot batons, parsnips which although tasty could have done with longer in the oven to crisp up a bit and red cabbage with Cardamon pods in which frankly was hideous! Lovely bottle of Merlot with our lunch, reasonably priced for a hotel but overall, despite leaving a generous tip, the staff after all were very pleasant and attentive, l left feeling disappointed and would definitely not come back here. Great shame as we've had many lovely Sunday lunches in The Ventana restaurant although a few years ago.
