Group booking. A huge thank you to Alex and the rest of the team for supporting our group booking from the very start. Alex was excellent in helping with the initial booking, providing options, and keeping me updated at every stage, which made the whole process feel smooth and well managed. The feedback from our group was very positive, and many had not visited Bristol before and were really impressed with the hotel facilities, the location, and, most importantly, the level of attention and support provided by Alex and the team throughout.

We booked an afternoon tea and spa experience as a group of 7 friends to celebrate at birthday. The table wasn’t prepared even though there were no other diners in the room on our arrival. We waited over an hour for the food part of our afternoon tea and in this time only had one drink as despite there still only being 3 tables occupied in the restaurant the staff were not attentive to the tables. There was no apology for the time taken and when the first food came out the special dietary needs of gluten free and vegetarian were not met, this was sorted but this then added more time!!! We then had to ask for more drinks to accompany the food. As 3 of the party were booked for a spa treatment they had to rush their afternoon tea to get to the spa on time - not very relaxing. The manager of the restaurant could do with some customer service training and better communication skills with the restaurant staff, he blamed the kitchen staff for the delay and took no responsibility for the experience in the restaurant as a whole. The treatments in the spa however were very good, as were the staff in at the spa. The spa is a quite quirky as in the vault of an old bank, maybe a little claustrophobic for some.

This a review of 2 halves. The restaurant was appalling, the spa was out of this world - amazing The staff in the restaurant (particularly the manager) could do with learning about customer service and hospitality from the staff in the spa. We waited for an hour for a cream tea which had been pre ordered. There were only 3 tables occupied! No apology, no acknowledgement and when we raised it as we were leaving he just blamed the kitchen! We then went down to the spa where the staff welcomed us with smiles. They made us feel welcome and all of us loved our treatments. Thank you for making us feel so good after a rubbish experience upstairs (the food was ok!!)

One night at this hotel is really enough. After previous stays at both St Ives and Fowey Harbour Hotels we were expecting better. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a polite receptionist however we noticed that she was quick to tell us what we would have to pay extra for, including cooked food at breakfast. We were also asked to pay a £50 deposit for extras we might have, which we did even though we didn’t intend to use it. It was kind of presented as something we had to comply with. Only last week we stayed in the far superior Watergate Bay hotel and our experience was quite different - we paid for our extras on checkout and it didn’t feel like the hotel was somehow concerned we wouldn’t want to do so. Our room was clean and functional, but felt very small and was located at the back of the building. The building itself feels like a boarding school. Somehow a bit run down, and very drab. The bathroom was clean but the sink was cracked. The seals on the shower and corners in the bathroom were looking like they needed replacing. Unfortunately there was little natural light in the room and the window was behind the bed, covered by shutters. When I opened the shutters it revealed a metal cased window with flaking paint, no wonder they were shut! What was a bit annoying was that the shutters didn’t actually block out daylight so we were awoken at sunrise, literally at the crack of dawn. This didn’t make for a restful experience. Breakfast was sparse, bread and pastry products were dry and not that fresh, and there was no decent fruit. Again, immediately as we sat down the waitress informed us cooked food would be an extra £10, which didn’t make sense as on the menu the prices were £12 for continental and £18 for cooked. We didn’t order cooked thank goodness as when seeing other people’s food we could tell that quality was lacking. This was strange because the breakfast buffet at St Ives Harbour was luxurious and high quality. All in all this was a disappointing experience and not worth the money. We won’t return and will book a premier inn next time we visit Bristol.
