Making access for my and my dog very easy. As a regular visitor to Cheltenham to see family, this is my third stay at The George and will be back in the future.

Just had a few days in Cheltenham stayed at The George, highly recommend. It was only for two nights but would definitely go back again. Breakfast was good also.

“Let down by extortionate breakfast charge”

This could have been a full marks score except for one thing, which I will come onto. But that one thing left a sour taste so it drops a mark. This could have been a full marks score except for one thing, which I will come onto. But that one thing left a sour taste so it drops a mark. The hotel itself was easy to find, there was free car parking behind and in front although I literally booked 3 hours before so didn’t research car parking and just used the public car park in front. On arrival the hotel really impressed me, I loved the style. The reason I was waiting was I was debating between the Hotel du Vin (a chain I like) and Malmaison, both from the same company. Reviews were mixed for those with some specific issues raised, so I contacted them but they didn’t get back to me until after I said I was going to stay. So I looked on Booking dot com and found The George with a similar style. On arrival the chap was efficient, polite but slightly standoffish. The room was lovely, it was one of the smaller rooms as I was travelling solo but it was a nice size. It was quiet, immaculately clean, well decorated and the bed and its linens were oh so comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size and loved some of the features like the bucket as a bin and the loo roll holder. There was a Nespresso machine with 3 pods (odd number for a double room), tea and real milk. No hot chocolate that I’d expect in a 4-star, not a deal breaker. There was real milk though and a couple of pieces of cake which was a lovely surprise. Where I mark the hotel down its value money on breakfast. It really wasn’t made clear when using booking dot com that the breakfast was only a continental. The charge this was £15 which frankly for a continental breakfast I think is extortionate, had I known?I wouldn’t have bothered and would’ve walked up the road into town. The ingredients were good, it was literally freshly squeezed orange juice and it was nice bread for the toast, the croissant and pain au chocolate were very fluffy and I enjoyed the smoothie, but there was no way that was worth £15. The cost for hot extras was rather excessive too such as £7 for a hard boiled egg and about another £15 for eggs royale. Would I go back? Yes. Would I buy the breakfast? Absolutely not for that price.
