We had been looking at staying at the Grosvenor Pulford for a while & an opportunity arose when they had a deal on, as we had been considering staying for Christmas but wanted to check it out beforehand. The booking on-line was good which was followed by a phone call from them to confirm our detailed requirements which was good. There is a good range of room types to choose from for various requirements & budgets. There is extensive car parking at the hotel but it can get busy at times as they do functions there & also the Spa. The check in process was good & we were shown to the lift which is through a door in Nelson's bar, our rooms were as expected & requested which were nicely furnished with a nice view of the gardens, the only thing missing was a fridge! The hotel is a maze of corridors but are well signposted, the gardens are well kept with a large pond containing a lot of koi carp & is well worth walking around in nice weather. On the Sunday evening we had the carvery in the Palm court restaurant which was acceptable however the plates were cold & some of the food wasn't that hot either. They also require a dress code like other 4 star hotels as wearing shorts & tracksuits which isn't in keeping with the ambience of the place. There is also a 7.5% service charge on most of the food & drinks in the restaurant & bar which is stated on the menus. The breakfasts were a help yourself buffet which was OK however they were cooking too much at a time which then went cold & on one of the days the eggs didn't look very good. The staff on the breakfast service were very good compared with the evening ones. The hotel is ideally located to tour Chester via the park & ride which I would recommend & also the Cheshire Oaks outlet village & a bit further is also the North Wales coast & attractions. The following day we had a swim in the indoor pool which was large for a hotel with a good temperature for swimming but a little shallow in places. The second night we ate in Nelson's bar which was ok apart from the food being served on cold plates & the ice cream being served in a hot glass & the crumble & custard being served cold which one of the staff removed from the bill. This hotel I would highly recommend, the staff were all pleasant & well presented & had their names displayed. The rooms were well furnished & had most of the usual items in them that you would expect. What let it down was the food being served on cold plates, however there seemed to be a few pubs down the road to choose from instead of you want to adventure out of the hotel.
