The room was very spacious and clean, the staff were friendly and the location was excellent for the city centre. So why they have to spoil the experience with the breakfast, you book on line and pay for the breakfast, only to be told when you check in that you had paid for the continental breakfast and hot food would be extra. Ok, but then when you go for breakfast you find the continental breakfast only covers a single item like a bowl of granola, with coffee and orange juice. A slice of toast or a second coffee charged extra. I personally observed several others in the breakfast room not happy with this. Shame they chose this method to try to increase revenue. Personally I just stuck with the granola.

My mum and I always choose to stay here when we’re in the area and have always loved it. The staff continue to be excellent and the room was comfortable. We had a great view! We were really disappointed though at breakfast (which was always one of our favourite parts!) when we noticed we could only choose one item to eat. I thought it was a huge mistake that toast/croissant was one of the options so I couldn’t even have some toast without paying extra as I’d picked porridge. I was shocked too that we could only have one cup of coffee and any refills would be charged. I did say to the staff at the front desk that I understood why Abode had to maybe make changes as I’m sure some people do order way too much food and much of it is wasted. However, surely coffee refills could be included with your breakfast and some toast/croissants. After that, we would be happy to choose one item only from the menu. We do hope to come back one day and hope breakfast will be reviewed.

As we wanted somewhere a bit special for our anniversary of 20 years we booked a fabulous suite on the 6th floor for a 2 night stay. We booked for the location as we wanted to be close to Watergates Street and Bridge Street and this was a short walk to both streets. We made use of the parking which when paying for the most expensive suite was surprised that we had to pay an additional £40 for the two nights prior to arriving. In fact there were no perks at all for opting for one of the most expensive rooms at the hotel. Arriving from the car park to the reception area we were greeted with broken tiles and stains on the chair before being greeted by friendly check-in staff. The welcome was friendly but lacked warmth and a genuine desire to ensure we had a great stay. We checked in and after my husband added notes to the booking nothing was mentioned about our special requests/special occasion or any recommendations made to make the stay special. We arrived at 3pm and had to wait to check if the room was ready for us, not a great start. The good bits.... We took the lift to the 6th floor and entered the room, it was very spacious and the large windows overlooking the courts and surrounding areas was great. I really liked the long balcony complete with a lounger chair and two chairs with a table. There was plenty of wardrobe storage and the long corner sofa with separate tv was great for spending time in the room relaxing. The main reason for booking this room was the large roll top bath and separate walk in shower as relaxation was key for this break. Robes and slippers were provided for our use and the toiletries provided by Urban Apothecary were divine. The large super king bed was huge and extremely comfortable and the ambient lighting was also great to create a relaxing ambience. The bath was amazing, deep, hot water and very relaxing. The bad bits..... The room was looking tired and I am still wondering if it can justify the price point given that there were no special touches given our note to the booking, there was a small bottle of red wine for the mini bar but no price and it was not clear if this was complimentary or an additional cost as it was not detailed on the mini bar price list in the room and we did have to ask. The tv although one was a smart tv we could not use the features to enjoy some box set binging and ended up not using either tv and watching it from an iPad. Again, a little disappointing. The room showed signs or wear and tear with chips in the wooden furniture and a large scrape along the wardrobe door. The net curtains had pulls in them and the glass on the balcony had bird poo on them which could have been wiped away prior to a guests visit as the hotel did not appear to be at full capacity in anyway. We did not dine at the hotel but did visit for a cocktail on the last night, which was inline with prices at the bars in the city centre, the bar tender was a credit to the hotel and the most friendly and welcoming team member that we came across for the duration of the stay. Would I stay here again? Possibly if the price was competitive, but I think if you are staying in the top room level there should be some perks offered and also if asking for any reason for your stay, at least acknowledge it at check-in. The check-out lacked interest and we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay or that they hoped to see us again.
