We stayed here the night before holiday to Florida. We had stay park and fly, everything was very well co ordinated even though we had two separate booking’s everything ran smoothly. We were a family group of 8 and were given rooms on the same floor which was nice. Rooms were very well equipped, beds were comfortable and bathroom had everything you needed,including hairdryer, tea making facilities and even microwave. We had dinner in the restaurant, and a few drinks at the bar. All staff we encountered were very professional and helpful. Our car was left in car park,and we were given a ticket to put in windscreen. In the morning a mini bus was provided to take us to the airport, which was approximately 10/15 mins away. A phone number and instructions were given to us to phone on our return, and we met our taxi who took us back to hotel to collect our cars. I would definitely recommend the sandman hotel at Gatwick, and will probably use it again in the future.

“Great Staff make the difference”

This is Four star hotel with some age however it is very good because of it’s excellent staff who were superb in their roles especially Eva and John who assisted with a small issue during our 4 night stay . One of a handful of hotels whose GM is obviously respected by staff out in the public areas . Breakfast included in our rate was really ok but not outstanding, staff however were great. We were assisted by a bar staff member to watch an Australian NRL game ,much appreciated. Regrettably the dining options were disappointing with mostly fried and greasy dishes. Also the spirit of cost control at the expense of customers was evident everywhere, understandable but , we’ve had many similar experiences without these and eventually quality and exceptional will always win . We were in a room with a 2.5 kw aircon that was actually quite noisy even on silent an inexplicable turn off 3 nights by itself . Nevertheless we were extremely grateful for being in a cool room in a great bed nice room anda hotel fab pool.

Unfortunately what started as a brilliant experience I had already started recommending to colleagues, ended badly. We booked a Park, Stay, Fly Package which as the name suggests includes an overnight stay, parking for the duration of your holiday and transfers to and from the airport via private taxi. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and furnished, not what you would expect from a hotel so close to the airport. We dined at the Shark Grill where the food was lovely and again, staff are very friendly. Our room was equally as nicely decorated and very comfortable. We had a good nights sleep before our flight. Finding a space on arrival was easy, you choose and keep your keys. Where you park is where you stay. Check in was also very easy and informative. Everything you could possibly want to know was offered up to you in a friendly digestible manner. You’re provided a slip of paper for your return transfer with clear instructions. This sadly, is where it went wrong. We called the number after collecting our bags as per the instructions. My husband told the operator twice we were Park Stay & Fly at the Sandman. He then gave our name, twice. Then he had to tell them how many of us there were, how many bags, which terminal etc. Once outside we realised we were given no indication of the type of car or registration of the vehicle so in a sea of drop offs and pickups we had no idea who was there for us. Eventually the driver made himself known. We made it back to The Sandman and were then asked if we’d like to pay cash or card. We explained again that we were Park Stay and Fly and had already paid. The driver simply said, no. So we gave him the slip of paper with our name and reference, which he glanced at and still said no. He got out of the taxi and unloaded the cases but wouldn’t let my husband touch his, while he called his taxi company he repeatedly moved my husbands suitcase away from him if he tried to touch it. Annoyingly, when he eventually spoke to someone at his office he asked us it we had a reference which we’d literally just given to him !! I’ve no idea what the discussion was between them as it was carried out in a language I’m not familiar with which was also very awkward. I assume it was clarified as he got off the phone and said it is paid for, sorry. Yes we know that, we told the firm on the phone twice and told you twice, even providing a written reference but apparently none of those sufficed. We had a 4 hour journey back to Wales ahead of us, it really wasn’t what we wanted after spending all day travelling back to the UK. The return journey was a shambles, it was as if none of them had a clue they provided this service to The Sandman. Pick up when we left for our holiday was effortless and bang on time so it really is a huge shame that they completely ruined it coming back and that this in turn reflects badly on the hotel.
