I stayed at The Georgian House Hotel for the first time last night, and it’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left. From the moment you walk in, you realise this isn’t a gineric pub/hotel - it has real personality. Not the kind that’s been designed in, but the kind that builds up over the years. Every corner feels lived-in, every room slightly different, and the whole place carries that rare sense of character you just don’t find in chains. It feels authentic, warm, and unmistakably its own thing. After a long day working, the food was exactly what was needed - and then some. Proper, homemade pub food done exceptionally well. Generous portions, rich flavour, and clearly made with care and attention. You can tell this is a kitchen that takes ppride in what it serves. The bar itself has a great atmosphere too - good ales, relaxed energy, and that easy sense of community (I made at least three new friends) that makes you want to stay for “just one more.” The room was something else entirely. I slept in a four-poster bed for the first time in my life, which felt oddly special - like stepping into another era for the night. It perfectly summed up the place: unique, full of charm, and completely unlike anywhere else. You’re not just staying in a room; you’re staying somewhere with a story. And then breakfast the next morning - honestly, exceptional. A full English done properly is a rare thing these days, and this was one of the best I’ve had. Everything cooked exactly as it should be, high-quality ingredients, no shortcuts. It set me up perfectly for the day and rounded off the stay in the best possible way. What really defines the place, though, is the people. The staff were consistently warm, attentive, and completely genuine. Nothing felt forced or scripted. It was just natural, thoughtful hospitality. That was made especialy clear the morning I left. An elderly lady staying there couldn’t get her car to start, which could have been quite distressing. The landlady (Karen?) stepped in immediately - calm, practical, and kind. She arranged help, stayed with her, and made sure everything was sorted. No fuss, no sense of inconvenience - just a quiet determination to make sure a guest was okay. She even went so far as to provide free refreshments while the lady waited. Would you get this at a chain hotel? I think not… That moment said everything. This isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place with heart, with character, and with people who genuinely care. There’s so much personality here it’s almost impossible to describe. You really do have to experience it. I’ll be back. And next time, it won’t just be for work.
