We had a great week at Fowey hall. We went with our two kids (4 and 6) and they had a blast-there were even tears on the last night that we were leaving. There are lots of nice activities for kids-cinema club every night with popcorn, a games room with pool table, table tennis and arcade games, marshmellow toasting and a daily kids club (although it was slightly babyish for my nearly 7 year old) plus a very nice heated pool (was balmy even at the beginning of April) which the kids spent hours in. We thought the food was great although would be good to change the menu during the week for those who eat in the hotel a lot, lots of nice places to have a cocktail, Diane was an absolute gem the kids loved her and it was walkable to Fowey with the kids which we enjoyed exploring. The only thing I would say to be aware of is the spa-we didn’t come for the spa so it didn’t bother us but it comprises a sauna horsebox (which actually we quite liked but appreciate it is not everyone’s cup of tea) a jacuzzi and a tiny steam room that smelt a bit odd! We will definitely be returning!

Stayed here recently having stayed in the past prior to the spa being built. This time we were keen to try the spa and see what improvements had been made to the hotel. Stayed in the Padstow room which is considered a Standard/Classic room. The room itself was very large in size, plenty of room, along with an equally large bathroom with freestanding bath tub. The room was very clean. No view as such to the rear as it faced the road leading to the car park via a steep bank. Unfortunately despite the heating controls showing zero, it was quite warm in the room. Perhaps an issue that has been noted before as the room had a ceiling fan and portable air con unit on wheels. The air con unit was quite loud so not really usable when in the room, while the ceiling fan did help move the air. Bathroom had a separate shower with impressive shower head, while the bath was lovely and deep, albeit a bit slow filling. Sleep quality was very good with two doors separating the sleeping area from the corridor. Staff throughout our stay were on the whole very attentive. We headed to the spa which is located outside, across the car park and down some stairs. After a little confusion at the spa reception we eagerly entered the spa. If you are not staying in the hotel its £40 per person for 4 hours. We were informed we should have booked our time in the spa, however we were not advised of this at the time of booking our stay. The spa we have to admit was a bit of a disappointment. There is a separate relaxation area with loungers, herbal teas and a (tepid) water dispenser. There was no ice or fruit in the water, which I found surprising given most spa's at least have ice. Through the changing rooms leads you to the modest sized swimming pool, which, being a family hotel had a few children in it. No separate swimming lane however should you wish to swim. At the end of the pool facing the windows are 4 loungers, a steam room which I have to say smelt very pungent (most have a herbal smell, this didn't). There was also an elevated spa bath which was exceptionally hot, with gentle massage jets. You need to be comfortable walking up and down steep, wet steps to be able to use it. Outside there is a converted horse box which functions as a spa. Oddly you have to exit the building to be able to use it, which is not pleasant in adverse weather. While there are 1 hour adult swim times in the morning and afternoon, as the wet area is not separated from the family pool, its not as relaxing an area as with a traditional spa. It may better in the summer when the outdoor loungers are in use. There was also no water dispenser in the wet spa area, forcing you to go through the changing rooms, back to the wellness area, and for which only over 16s are permitted. Ideally a cold water dispenser should be installed in the wet area. Thankfully we didn’t have to pay to use the spa as we felt the £40 charge would have been excessive for the facilities. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant that evening. The restaurant area was the same as our last visit, dimly lit and with a warm atmosphere. Food was generally ok, though I would say not worthy of the prices charged, particularly the chocolate desert, comprising of a small spoon of chocolate mousse, a small quarter of chocolate brownie, and a bit of honeycomb, for £12. Add to all prices 12.5% service charge (discretionary). Car parking was straightforward, seems to be enough spaces for the hotel, along with EV chargers. The remainder of the hotel is comfortable, with plenty of seating areas, a comfortable library room, and a fun games room, though some of the seating areas had used plates/glasses left awaiting collection by previous guests. Overall we had a nice stay, however, we did feel there could be improvements to the spa and food. The hotel did seem a good choice for families, but perhaps a couple seeking a true luxury R&R experience may be better looking elsewhere, particularly if a good spa is important to them.

“Nice staff - bad service”

It’s a stunning location with nice staff. But the food is overpriced and the service in the restaurant is awful - staff just can’t keep up when it’s busy. If you have young children think twice as you could be sitting at the table for a long long time.
