We booked a couple of rooms for 2 nights. Unfortunately one of the rooms was poor in terms of condition, size and location. Raised the issues and staff went above and beyond to help. They were able to move the couple to a much nicer room, and even refunded the cost for the room for a night. We couldn’t have asked for more. The staff are exceptional and should be really praised for their professionalism and friendly manner. Wayne, the manager, deserves a very special mention as he was fantastic - but ALL of the team were great. Thank you!

“Centrally located but needs some TLC”

We travelled to the hotel as two families in seperate rooms. We booked as it is close to Longleat. Upon arrival we went to the hotel car park and there was a notice asking us to call reception to get the access code. After calling several times but had no answer, we parked in another space and went to the reception to check in and to get the code. Access is via a padlock and metal shutter that is quite stiff. The car park is small and could be very tight for larger vehicles. There isn’t always space available we found over the few days we was staying. But there’s a car park nearby that you can pay to park and isn’t a long walk from the hotel. To get to our room we had to go up a few stairways which wasn’t an issue as we are able bodied. This hotel isn’t suited for anyone that has mobility difficulties. Our room was a good size but needed some TLC. It could be made so much better with some minor works. The plug hole in the shower was broken, ceiling damp and paint flaking and walls had various chips from them that need filling and painting. Windows was dirty too. The room offers a kettle, a selection of teas and hot chocolates and some biscuits too which was nice. Our room overlooked the Main Street where it was noisy at night and we was woken at 1-2am from drunk people shouting and music playing. The hotel breakfast was good. A selection of pastries, fruit and muffins was presented on the bar and you ordered a cooked breakfast from the waiting staff. I found it strange that there wasn’t the option for a kids breakfast, so there was a fair amount of waste that could have been avoided. One thing that stood out to us, was that a lot of the staff was but child friendly. The main bar man appeared irritated by the children laughing and playing together and he wasn’t so friendly with us because if it. We ate at the restaurant if an evening as it was easiest when the children was tired. But again the staff wasn’t so friendly which was a shame. We attempted to make conversation and it felt like they wasn’t interested which isn’t something I’m used to from staying in locally run b&bs. The food at the restaurant was nice. They had a kids menu and a good selection of foods for us to order from. We enjoyed all the food we tried, particularly the Camembert. The restaurant was nice and modern, but needed some additional cleaning. There was a layer of dust on the mantle piece over the fireplace which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a while. The lady cleaning the rooms was friendly and chatty and so was a waitress that was serving breakfast one of the days. Which was nice, given that some of the staff was off with us. The location is very central but that comes at a price as our room was noisy through the night. Would I stay here again? Probably not. If there was better service and rooms was made a bit nicer, then maybe. But for £80 a night, I expected a bit more than we got.

“Only for the able-bodied, and tolerant!”

No-one from the hotel has responded in fact, my wife wrote to Wadworths about her treatment regarding no-one being available to fetch our cases from the car park. I'm 82, she is 78 and she had to struggle by herself. No-one… more

No-one from the hotel has responded in fact, my wife wrote to Wadworths about her treatment regarding no-one being available to fetch our cases from the car park. I'm 82, she is 78 and she had to struggle by herself. No-one has responded to this either. If you are able bodied, don't bother to read on! I agree with most reviews, good location, mostly very helpful staff but I didn't know that Frome was so hilly! Walking anywhere is either up hills or down hills, and they are all quite steep. Using the hotel's car park, enough for about a dozen cars but small bays, entails driving down a slope of about 40 metres, unlocking a combination padlock, pulling open a heavy concertina metal door and parking carefully. Access to the hotel is either up the slope, walking along the street for a few yards, turn a corner and into the bar. Alternatively going down about twenty steps to a basement bar. I did ring beforehand to ask about accessibility issues and was told there is a disabled bay right outside, but we arrived on the monthly market day, which I wasn't warned about, so it had stalls in it. Similarly many roads were closed so it took about 20 minutes to get to the hotel, even though we could see it! Apparently more disabled parking was nearby but I wasn't told. There were 20 steps up to our room, there being no ground-floor rooms. Presumably the hotel doesn't have many guests with walking difficulties as, they wouldn't visit Frome if they had, unlike me, done more research. The Medieval streets are so narrow that one can't drive around and stop and stare. I think the hotel's website, and reception staff should reflect that most able-bodied guests could manage, but those less able should be warned so that they can give Frome, and this hotel a miss!
