For a second year running we had an absolutely fantastic lunch on Christmas Day at the Bull. Becks and her team covered all bases from the moment we walked in and were greeted with a lovely toast, right the way through canapés and a fantastic Christmas lunch. Alex who looked after us in the restaurant was absolutely superb – very attentive and lovely throughout the meal. The food was even better this year than last year and the wines were excellent. Thank you to the whole team who worked Christmas Day and made it so special for those of us who enjoyed it.

“Very nice but let down by tired room”

My wife and I stayed here last weekend. We like to come back every now and again as we got married here. The staff were all lovely. Polite, professional and efficient, even when there was a hiccup at check in when the computers/machine weren’t working to programme our key card. The reception area, garden, bar/conservatory area and breakfast room were all lovely. The room itself was a bit of a let down. We knew we were in a basic room, but it was very old fashioned and tired. The furniture had certainly seen better days and the bathroom looked very tired. Really I think the room needed a refurb. We also struggled to find any ability to turn on a/c or eve just to turn heating down as the room was very warm and the radiator was not on. Perhaps we should have asked someone but in the end we just cracked the window open a tad. The breakfast was really lovely. We were on a promotion which included dinner bed and breakfast which meant we could have a 2 course dinner (see menu in the photos). The menu was quite limited and a tad dull (which perhaps would suit what I would say was an older demographic at the hotel) which was a little disappointing. That said, the food was all cooked and presented beautifully. If it wasn’t for the overall value that we had through the promotion, I would have raised the standard of the room with the hotel. Parking was a plentiful and check out was easy. I would certainly recommend the hotel, but think carefully about the room type. You may want to spend a bit more to have something nicer than the basic room.

We stayed three nights in an Executive Double at the Bull Hotel in Gerards Cross and really enjoyed the experience, except for the breakfast. The room was bright and tastefully decorated, although the view from the window was not very nice - facing a sort of inside courtyard surrounded by other buildings. But everything functioned well, the bathroom was modern and the bedroom was very spacious. A coffee machine would have been a welcomed plus, as we’re not fans of instant coffee, but there was a good choice of teabags and biscuits, and there was complimentary bottled water. The gardens are beautiful and would probably be a lovely place to spend time in in the summer. The staff were extremely friendly, efficient and welcoming. A nice touch was a glass of bubbly offered to guests on Christmas day. The only let-down was the breakfast, which had a poor choice of food, tasteless packaged cheeses, overcooked fried eggs, no coffee machine, and the only fresh loaf of bread kept running out. Still, the positives far outweighed the negatives, and we would happily stay there again.
