We recently stayed at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate and found it to be a bit of a mixed experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, with stunning grounds, an excellent location within easy walking distance of the town centre, and the added bonus of ample parking. The entrance hall and downstairs areas are particularly impressive and full of character. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, our night’s sleep was badly affected by noise. There was a function taking place that continued until around 3am, and many guests appeared to be using the hotel as a base for nights out in town, resulting in people coming and going noisily during the early hours. The bedroom itself was disappointing. The bed was uncomfortable, the bathroom was extremely small, and the room became very hot overnight with no air conditioning available. On a positive note, breakfast was good with a decent selection and attentive service. Overall, the Old Swan is a lovely historic hotel in a fantastic setting, but improvements to soundproofing, room comfort and temperature control would make for a much more enjoyable stay.

“Weeekend in Harrogate with the French 2026”

8 of us stayed for the weekend, 2 nights, 4 rooms. Very nice looking hotel with nice gardens & on site parking. The rooms were good apart from ours that had a bad smell from the bathroom. Great breakfasts. Lovely bar area. Nice staff.

Good breakfast Shame we were woke by staff talking very loudly below our bedroom window outside the rear entrance. Obviously oblivious of sleeping guests above!! Shame the lady on checkout and breakfast room staff look so miserable and don’t make any effort to at least pretend you are a welcome paying guest. Such a shame as hotel is beautiful Think a staff meeting with importance of customer service wouldn’t go a miss.

We were part of a coach group staying at the Old Swan hotel. The location of the hotel is good being a short walk into Harrogate. The hotel’s history is interesting particularly in regards to Agatha Christie’s disappearance. Our room No 358 was small and dark but the biggest disappointment was the size of the bathroom which was ridiculously small for a double room. We were on the third floor but did not use the lift due to it being very slow and there was generally a queue. Breakfast was good. There were 2 coach parties staying at the hotel and food items were quickly replenished once the serving dishes were empty. Again at dinner, food and service were good. All staff in the restaurant were hardworking but a special mention to George who was friendly and attentive. We were disappointed as regards our allocated double room as others on our coach party had much larger rooms and bathrooms even though they were in a single room!!
