“A great find”

I stayed here from the 8 - 12 May with some other relatives for a family reunion in Hereford. The whole experience was very positive. The accommodation was clean and well maintained. Secure WiFi. The room was spacious and well furnished. Bed very comfy. Tea and coffee in the room. The bathroom consisted of toilet, basin and electric shower. Towels and toiletries provided. It was quite a small space. The shower water pressure was a little slow and the location of the toilet roll holder was on the back wall above the cistern, a little tricky to reach. I understand there are plans to refurbish the bathrooms in the future. Having said that it it is a small matter to be addressed and did not negatively impact my stay at all. Monique and staff very welcoming and pleasant. A nice conservatory space and garden for relaxing and chatting. Breakfast was excellent, good selection, freshly cooked to order, extra tea on request. I would not hesitate to recommend and return in the future.

“Comfortable, good-value edge of town B&B”

Brandon Lodge is a comfortable bed and breakfast hotel on the southern edge of Hereford. I stayed four nights during a week of hot weather at the end of April/beginning of May 2025. I was allocated room 9, a twin-bedded room in the modern range away from the road. It offered plenty of space. The bathroom had a bath/shower. Breakfast (excellent individually cooked full English, plus the usual buffet) is served in the main building. There is a small garden and a conservatory. I didn't test the WiFi. Brandon Lodge is next to the main A49 road, but I wasn't disturbed by traffic. The modern range faces north, so did not get too warm in hot weather. Brandon Lodge is about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) by road from the cathedral, so is beyond easy walking distance from the city centre's tourist sights and eating places. Rush hour in Hereford can be slow, because the one modern bridge over the River Wye concentrates traffic. Researchers intending to visit Herefordshire Archives on the Rotherwas estate, as I did, should note that Brandon Lodge, unlike almost all other places to stay in Hereford, is only a five-minute drive away via the ring road. Summary: very good value for money, evidenced by the full car park. I'd stay again. Brava Monique!

Email received saying check in was until 9:30pm (this information was not available at booking). As I was leaving work late I contacted Monique who was very helpful and advised that we could still access our rooms. When we arrived our rooms were very clean, comfortable, warm and had everything we needed. They are a bit dated but felt cosy. Hot water for a shower took about 5 minutes to run through but was powerful enough and warm. The only thing in the room that would help is another hook in the bathroom for towels as they kept falling in the floor - only a minor point though. Monique served us at breakfast on our first day - nothing was too much trouble. She was attentive without being too much. Rooms were cleaned and made up whilst we were out. The only slight negative was the second morning there was a different staff member at breakfast who wasn’t as helpful or welcoming - granted it was slightly busier with 4 more tables than ours. I received less food when I made the same order and we received less toast (3 full slices for 4 people) than on our first breakfast. We weren’t checked on and so I had to catch the lady who served us and she seemed a bit flustered by this. I requested some more toast but rather than just bring more she wanted the last two slices to be removed first so she could take the toast rack (we were going to eat but this felt odd as I assumed there were more toast racks in the kitchen). By the time we received the toast we had all nearly finished our breakfasts. The lady then asked to clear the table and I requested that she wait until we had all finished eating. She continued to take all plates except mine whilst I was eating still which felt rude. This made me feel rushed and in the way. I would appreciate if the room was busy and tables were needed but this was not the case and it was still within breakfast service. When we left the table, bowls were still left so it does make me feel like she just wanted us to leave ( despite us being there for only 35 minutes). I appreciate this could just be down to experience but it may be helpful for this lady to see how Monique manages the breakfast at Brandon lodge. Overall we had a great stay. The hotel is comfortable, clean but a bit dated. We would however return and reccomend.

Brandon Lodge hasd been a favourite for many years, run to high standards by Monique and her small team; the welcome is warm, the simple courtyard rooms contain all that is needed for a short stay (a hot water bottle would be a good thing to take with you) and the breakfast cooked to order is sumptuous; the countryside on ther doorstep is glorious and hereford has real shops of character (do not miss church street)
