Three of us stayed for one Saturday night Positives: - Precise and thoughtful service - Huge room - Great bed - Excellent restaurants - Nice massages / spa treatments Negatives: - Spa service and management is chaotic - took four goes to book a a massage. We went to the main spa area for an hour (you have to book) to find used towels everywhere, no cups, people on phones (the rules claim it is a mobile free zone) - it just looked uncared for.

“Beautiful hotel but housekeeping needs improvement”

On arrival the hotel looks very impressive and the grounds are beautiful. We had booked a double room which in the pictures looked very good. Reception staff were very friendly and we were shown to the room, which was actually in a different building to the main house. On entering the room it was obvious the decor was tired with paint chipped off the wall, the furniture stained, and on inspection of the bathroom it was obvious that housekeeping had not cleaned the toilet. We immediately returned to Reception and explained what we had found and all credit due they immediately apologised and rectified the situation by moving us to a beautiful room in the main house, which I can only be grateful for. The common areas in the hotel are gorgeous but I did feel a little tired with wallpaper ripped in the lounge area. One more small point was that the shower gel and conditioner were empty when I had a shower the next morning which I thought again was not good for a 4 star hotel especially as I believe our room was over £400 per night. Then when I asked for them to be filled they were just left outside the door. I just think there is a problem with housekeeping as these are basic issues in any hotel. I would love to have marked higher as our issues were dealt with quickly professionally by Reception.

Although the staff were welcoming, polite and friendly, overall the contents of the afternoon tea were disappointing. Three finger sandwiches each, two made with white bread, followed by a tasty brioche savoury, then three obviously shop-bought cakes. The rhubarb and custard macaroon was hard and the lemon meringue tart had a chemical flavour. The scones at the end of the tea were hard. The teas were a good flavour though and plenty of tea available. Finally, I had told the reception on booking that this tea was a gift for a 70th birthday but there was no recognition of this at the afternoon tea. All in all, we would not be able to recommend this afternoon tea to anyone else.
