Lovely rooms. Ate in the main restaurant tonight and were looked after by the Oliver and the rest of the team. Can’t fault it!

We have stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions and whilst the location, rooms and cleanliness cannot be questioned we noticed significant changes to the restaurant services. We have stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions and whilst the location, rooms and cleanliness cannot be questioned we noticed significant changes to the restaurant services. The menu appears reduced but the prices continue to rise! In the past a complimentary roll was served but now this costs £5! The portion sizes reduced and tp pay over £20 for fish and chips is way over the top. A 10% service charge has now been added so when one considers that an "average" 3 course meal costs a couple close on £90 then adding the service charge takes you to One hundred pounds a night. In contrast the breakfast is still very very good, plenty of choice. That is my only negative as the hotel generally is very good and hence is the reason we regularly return.

I booked an overnight spa stay at Oulton Hall two days after my dad’s funeral, hoping for some relaxation and time to unwind. I’d saved up to treat myself, so I was really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, the stay didn’t live up to expectations. Check-in wasn’t until 3pm, and although early check-in was available, it was charged at £10 per person per hour. When we later asked about a late check-out, we were told this would cost £25 per person per hour. Considering check-out is already at 11am, this felt excessive. Our package included a treatment, evening meal up to the value of £70, and breakfast. We arrived at 3pm, checked into what was a fairly basic room, had a drink after a long drive, and headed to the spa as our treatments were booked for 4:30pm. However, we couldn’t use the pool because children’s swimming lessons were taking place. We managed a quick sauna before heading to our treatments, which were lovely and probably the highlight of the stay. Afterwards, the swimming lessons were still ongoing, so we returned to our room and got ready for dinner. Our table was booked for 7pm, but the atmosphere was far from relaxing. A large golf group of around 20–25 men were seated next to us, giving speeches and presenting trophies from their day’s golf. It was so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation. To make matters worse, our desserts took around 50 minutes to arrive. Staff apologised, but only after we had asked twice where they were. We had carefully calculated our meal choices to stay within the £70 allowance, only to find a £7.50 service charge added to the bill, which we still had to pay. The next morning, we had breakfast and then it was time to check out. Between the late check-in, early treatment booking, dinner, breakfast, and early check-out, we never actually got the chance to use the pool. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and wishing I had simply booked a spa treatment and gone home afterwards. The treatments themselves were excellent, but the overall experience felt poor value for money and certainly wasn’t the relaxing break I had hoped for at such a difficult time. Sadly, I won’t be returning.
