For us, the location could not have been better: close to pubs, restaurants, shops, and car parks. The staff were very friendly and keen to help. The room was good, although it was front-facing and therefore a little noisy because of the nightlife. I'll request a room at the rear next time, as some other reviews have suggested. The room did not have air conditioning (heating only), and as it was the hottest Bank Holiday on record, it was a bit warm. However, the hotel had provided an oscillating desk fan, which did help. I was a little disappointed when it came to having a shower, as the room description on the website lists toiletries, but there was no shower gel or shampoo provided—only soap and hand/body lotion. Overall, I think our stay was very good value compared with similar hotels in the area. The hotel has a bar/lounge near the reception area and also has access to a nearby off-site bar called Dicey Reilly's, which shows sports and serves pub food. We visited it during our stay for lunch and would happily recommend it. The staff were kind enough to take us through the office and out of the back gate as a shortcut to the pub, which was slightly quicker than walking the longer route around. We had a choice of a cold buffet or a cooked-to-order breakfast on both mornings, which was very nice. It was also possible to watch the food being prepared in the restaurant. The selection of cooked breakfast options was excellent and varied. The breakfast cost £15 per person. I note that some reviews mention this is a little expensive, but in our opinion, we'd rather pay a little more than at some well-known inns for a freshly cooked breakfast made to order, including options such as Eggs Royale. I also noticed that some reviews mention the £50 deposit as an unwelcome surprise, but it is clearly stated on both the website and the booking confirmation. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and have already booked again.

“Weird check in”

Asked for a £50 deposit, found that weird as had booked through booking.com, they had all my details in case I trashed the room!
