Great pub, amazing staff, they are all very friendly. The food we had was "pub food" but 5 star quality. Really good value for money and perfectly cooked. I can't see how they could improve anything. The pub was full of people and that just shows how great they are. This must be my fourth visit and it's always a 10 out of 10 experience.

“Great stay”

We spent 2 nights at the Crown Hotel with friends. We enjoyed a great stay. We spent 2 nights at the Crown Hotel with friends. We enjoyed a great stay. The bedroom was warm and comfortable, the breakfasts were very good and the evening menu has a good choice and was well cooked. We received a warm welcome from Jo and Paul as we checked in and throughout our stay. All front of house staff were very friendly too. Would definitely return.

“Couples birthday stay”

Lovely old building, could do with a little TLC, but a refurbishment is happening soon. Fantastic, friendly hosts and staff. Chef is amazing, all food was tasty and plentiful. Beautiful surroundings. Well stocked bar, tv in room a little small ! Would definitely return.

My partner and I stayed here for one night as a post Christmas treat. We were able to find a car park space (1 of 4) directly outside the hotel which was very handy. We arrived early and luckily were given the keys so had a free early check in. Our room was on the first floor - directly opposite the stairs so not far to walk at all. Our room was extremely basic. The bed was the best feature, beautifully presented with lovely big cushions, rolled towels and immaculate linen (I actually slept very well). The wardrobe (actually just wooden shelving built into an alcove) had ample hanging space and plenty of coat hangers but no doors - just a voile curtain to pull across which made it look very dated. We had just one bedside table which was unfortunate for my partner as he had nowhere to put his phone and watch etc. We did have the luxury of a pod style coffee maker but no idea what the pods were as they had no labels. No instructions for the coffee maker neither. The coffee cups stored on the wardrobe shelving were a decent size but milk was very lacking sadly. The bathroom was not at all what we were expecting. On a positive we had a beautiful bath with a lovely mixer tap. Sadly no shower so we didn’t use the bath as no screen nor curtain for privacy, The rest of the bathroom was awful. The tiling was old and dated as were the badly stained toilet, cistern and sink (one of the taps swivelled as you turned it on). The bathroom mirror was higher than my 5’8” partner and as I’m only 5’2” I had no chance of being able to see in it. Fortunately there was a bedroom mirror. The whole decor of the bathroom was awful (I was later told that the bedrooms are going to be renovated soon). Downstairs I thought was beautiful, the restaurant / breakfast room was lovely and very well laid out. The lounge was lovely and it was great to see the log fire up and working (only staff are able to put logs in once lit). All very cosy with a lovely assortment of sofas and chairs. The bar was extremely busy and due to the layout of bench seats it was difficult to get to a space at the bar but we did eventually manage to order drinks and food. Not everything was available on the menu but we ordered fish, chips, mushy peas and a lasagna with chips and garlic bread. All in the cost of food was £30 and delicious. Drinks were a challenge: no Guinness, no Doom Bar and a limited choice of red wine. £16.50 for a pint of lager and a double gin with lemonade. Seemed expensive but maybe not (?) Quite noisy in the evening but to be expected I guess, children running around with no supervision and loud, drunk adults (which I found rather irritating). After a good night sleep we went for breakfast. My partner had cereal, toast with marmalade and poached eggs on a slice of toast. I had 2 toast and ordered pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. I had 5 but only ate 3 (they were cold so that was disappointing) I didn’t like the bacon as it looked barely cooked. We waited 20 minutes for tea and coffee but that was an oversight as the kitchen staff were busy. I liked the help yourself table which had a variety of juices on offer, a toaster with plenty of bread, a range of cereals and yoghurts. The lady that served us was very friendly and chatty explaining the hotel was going to be renovated and requested we return again to see the transformation. Overall it was nice but I like my creature comforts and found the bedroom and bathroom a disappointment. I’m giving it 3/5
