We had a fantastic one-night stay at the Clayton Hotel Manchester on 31 March 2026 . We paid for an upgrade to City Suite 1701, and it was exceptional from start to finish. It is the third time we have stayed at the Hotel, but the first time we have stayed in the City View Suite. The suite felt fresh and modern, with a huge, incredibly comfortable bed, great pillows and a sleek, contemporary bathroom. The complimentary minibar items and chocolates were a brilliant touch. The highlight, though, was the amazing views from the dual aspect windows, they provided sweeping views across Manchester and a bottle of prosecco that made the stay feel that bit more special. We also added a 2-course dinner to our booking, and the food was tasty with generous portions. Emily in the restaurant was a great host. We would gladly return to the Clayton and would highly recommend a City View Suite.

“Smart hotel in central location”

Perfect location for us in the centre of Manchester, on one of the main thoroughfares and between the gay village and Chinatown. Perfect location for us in the centre of Manchester, on one of the main thoroughfares and between the gay village and Chinatown. It's a new building, lots of glass and chrome and sharp angles, and very swish inside. We had a nice quiet room with a very good walk-in shower. There is an excellent buffet breakfast, and note that you can ask for your eggs to be freshly cooked for you, rather than having to make do with those lying around on the communal warming plate. The hotel has a definite corporate feel, and one morning there was a coach collecting what looked like hordes of flight attendants and pilots. That said, by the time we got down to breakfast each morning, the business people had largely gone off to do their business and most tables seemed to be taken by families and/or tourists. Not a huge amount of character but spot on for what we wanted.

There's a lot to like about this hotel. NIce decor, reasonably priced, well located, spacious rooms (I stayed in a King Exec) and generally pleasant to be in. Slightly annoying that they have a short 3pm - 11am check out policy but it seems to be the way of the world at the moment. WiFi also worked well, mini fridge in my room and comfy bed, Staff seemed helpful, although the guy at breakfast looked hungover. Breakfast was well equipped with a good range but I was disappointed by the quality - very bland taste to everything. So why only 3 stars? It's the same old story - room was far too hot and aircon controlled centrally so nothing could be done. You can open the window fully (which at first glance seems very precarious but there are some stoppers) for relief but this just lets in the unbearable outside noise. I refuse to give 4 stars to broken sleep but this could easily be one of the better hotels in the city if they gave some thought to guest comfort and food quality.
